I don't think he's as useless as some people think. This year I truly feel like Campbell is holding him back.

From what I saw last night, he was very good with Bergy and Looch. He and Bergy have a lot of chemistry off the ice and you can see it translate on the ice.

Bergy makes every player better and if they keep the two together, I believe we will see the Danny Paille we saw A few years back when he played with I believe Krejci and Wheeler (could be wrong).

He's never takes a night off and he is physical and a solid two-way player who gets in the greasy areas.

He has worked his butt off to transform his game once it became clear that his offensive game was somewhat lacking even though he was a 1st round draft pick. He truly embodies the motto of one person's trash (Buffalo) is another man's treasure (Bruins).

I'd like to see him retained after this season if at all possible.

What are people's thoughts on the line of Lucic-Bergeron-Paille?

Stone hands has always been his issue and it has haunted him his entire career.

I don't think he stays. Likely moved at the deadline if we are not in a playoff position.

I would agree that Campbell has held Paille back. Campbell needs to go.

Not very surprising, both French-Canadian and within a year in age, both hard workers and humble. Makes perfect sense for them to be very close.

If only he could work on the stone hands he would be playing on the top lines more.

I've always wanted to hear Paille speak French. I know he has when we've faced Montreal. You'd never know that English is his second language.

He's probably like most Franco-Ontarian's, two first languages. That's the case with me, I don't have an accent in either.

Anyway I'm with you, I've always thought that both Kelly and Paille were worlds better than people want to give them credit for. They've just lived on 3rd and 4th lines for so long that the rep stuck. I mean in theory if Eriksson played on the 3rd forever here, it would go the same way, "just an overpayed third liner". Fact is, someone has to play on those lines, and when you're the 9th best forward on your team, that's you. Doesn't make them bad hockey players in my book. Interestingly enough, usually the 9th best forward on a team has had to fight tooth and nail to make the NHL, and stay in the NHL. So they're usually top 3 in effort every night. Pretty admirable.

He's a good PKer and decent 4th line player. Ask anything more of him and it's a mistake. There is no offensive upside there to warrant him playing anywhere but the 4th line.

I like Danny Paille, but I'd prefer to see a guy with more thump on the 4th line next year; especially if it will cost nearly 1.5 to re-sign him anyway. Let him try to be a third liner elsewhere for that much money. And I'd wish him nothing but hte best every time except when he plays against us.

I love Danny Paille. He's been one of my favorites ever since he joined the Bruins.

Would love to see him on the third line- his speed is largely wasted on the fourth line with the way Campbell has been playing this season.

I look at it this way- if he can't score himself his speed can help make plays that can lead to his line mates scoring.

I'm with everyone, I've always been a Paille fan...despite his stone hands. He reminds me of the way we used to use Sabotka. Bottom six "grinder" who had some speed and skill. Goes to the Blues and because a great utility player.

I think Campbell is truly holding him back, and liked seeing him with Bergeron and Looch last night. He has a good IQ and knows how to get in behind the play for those sneaky break aways.

the guy has been getting junked on since day 1. Look at his playoff performance numbers in the cup year and the year we lost to chi. He also generates a decent amount of power play chances in the post season, regardless the state of the PP. His speed his huge if/when this team gets past a few rounds in the playoffs.

I think he's mostly a 4th liner but can do some good utility work like he did last night. Paille's work in both Cup final appearances was exceptional. He should not be referred to as garbage even if his game is waning a bit. I think he is wearing down but still has things to offer. Not sure if I would re-sign him though. Let's see how he does if they are in the playoffs.
It would be nice if Julien took a page from the Scotty Bowman book and moved players around the lineup as situations dictate. Bowman could often tell by a player's 2nd shift of the night how effective he was going to be and he would move him around accordingly. Same lines over and over again is bad news, especially when injuries strike as they have this year.

If you looked back at all the line-combo threads this year you'd see that I've been proposing Paille on Bergy's wing all season long.

I'm a big fan of his, mostly because the second we acquired him in 2009-2010, our penalty kill went from atrocious to phenomenal overnight. He has great speed, is a gritty player, solid defensively. He still has hands of stone, and that's kept him from being a real good player in this league, but all the other aspects of his game are valuable.

The 4th line has been a disaster this year, but I'm hesitant to pin it on Paille. I think Campbell is the one who has noticeably regressed, and they've had a rotating cast of losers on the other wing, whether it's a washed up Gagne, a useless Fraser, or a decent-but-maybe-not-ready-yet Cunningham (who the coach decides to bench anyway).

Paille and Bergeron have always played well together, and I think he can do a decent job on that line in the long run. He's not the perfect player, and not going to be an all-star, but in the absence of another top six winger, he's probably the best option for that line on the roster.

I think he's a hard worker and DOES deserve a shot to be more. But I agree with you. History and skillset pegs him as an ideal 4th liner. Asking anymore is asking for frustration. He'll get a few games, but he's not anything but a stopgap in the top 9 until we get an actual solution.

I've said this many times before, but if Paille had offensive awareness and skill, kid would be our leading scorer. Unfortunately you'll see him completely miss the net or shoot it into to the goalies chest more often than you'd like.

can`t teach hands IMO, ya got it or ya don`t, Paille doesn`t but he`s far from useless, having a centerman who is able to pursue the puck when it goes into the defensive zone along with DP would be terrific.

I`ll never under appreciate what Soupy has meant to this team but there comes a time when a change is needed, that 4th used to be the kind of line who could impact a game, not so much in the last year or so

What i like most about Paille is how he is always a defense first kinda guy, like when he had a breakaway yesterday instead of trying to score he rimmed the puck off the glass so that the other team had to go 200' to try and score:sarcasm:

He is what he is, a 4th liner, a 3rd at very best, he has no business being in the top 6 ever.

Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, great speed, but we all know his hands are like a 2 and a 7 not a big slick.

He's got all the tools other than the mitts. He was a first round pick for a reason, and I hope that Lucic-Bergeron-Paille line sticks for a bit. Pie compliments them really well. I'd choose him over Kelly and Campbell. Hope we re-sign him. Guys a black belt in karate for those who didn't know...

not sure I am ready to see it but I`d be interested in the return for a Paille from a team who`s looking to add a very solid defensive player with Cup experience?

His speed and willingness to play on the boards is great. As mentioned he is "Stone Hands", handles the puck like a hand grenade.

I like Paille and would like to see him re-signed. He is a useful, low cost player. I think he has skill that hasn't ever been maintained consistently. He has a 19 goal season in the NHL, but I think his confidence as a scorer has never developed and he has been in the role player mentality for a long time.

I don't mind seeing him get a few games with Bergeron and Lucic. God knows nothing else has worked. You never know what it takes for some guys to click. I mentioned this in the game day thread, but look at Mike Knuble. He was a former 1st rounder who played a 4th line role for a long time in the league. Then, when he was 30 years old, like Paille is now, he got a shot on a top line and scored 30 goals. He never looked back and it all came together for him. That is a rare story, but it can happen.

Had I not seen his play last night, I would have totally disagreed with the sentiment expressed here. I was of the mind that he and Campbell were both playing terribly but he really showed me something last night. That said, I don't want him playing int he top 9 and at his price, he's a luxury that this team can't afford. A speedy PK guy who forechecks on the fourth line shouldn't cost $1.5mm and I don't think he will be back.
