That said, it was claimed that Metallurg was holding him back in his year when he played about 4 minutes per game and put up no points, and then he signed a contract, got 1st line center time, and popped off. So is he not playing as well as last year, or is he being punished for not signing another contract extension? In one article in the summer, I think, Yurov said that he had been asked to play a defensive role in last year's playoffs in order to win the G. cup, and that's why his numbers were down. Perhaps this year is a continuation of that direction, but it's unfortunate that he is working on being a middle of the lineup defensive C rather than an offensive threat. I mean, we've got JEE, and Gaudreau, and Marat...

I can completely understand a team not trying to develop a player who has made it clear that they are leaving the team at year's end, but I also have to wonder at how we can expect a player who is barely. 5P/PG in the KHL is expected to be an offensive force in the NHL? The NHL is a WAY better league.

Roughly the same way that we know that Boldy produces better with Rossi and Zuccarello than he does with Johansson and Gaudreau.

Fact is, Yurov's usage is consistent with his role during last year's playoffs, when Magnitka won the championship. And his current play really hasn't warranted a promotion to a higher position, despite getting slightly more ice time than last year.
Of course everybody was hoping he'd take that 'next step', but it just hasn't happened.

His ice time is around the same as it was last year.

I seem to remember him starting down the lineup and working his way up last season, eventually he was put onto the first line with Mikhailis and Karpov and I think that's when his scoring took off.

This year it looks like he is on the second line again with Vovchenko and Petunin, but he's also really not outpacing his linemates in terms of scoring.

This year, Karpov and Grebyonkin are gone, which seems to have had a negative impact on their offense overall. Zernov (other top six center) and Kantserov (who seems to be their best offensive forward this year) have also missed quite a lot of time.

I think this goes back to the past year when I tried to temper expectations by saying he's good and has skill, but he's not a true driver. He can hang with the big boys but he's not driving the bus. People expecting even a Boldy level player when he first comes over are going to be disappointed. He's closer to Rossi last season.

Well he's still the 2C on the defending Gagarin Cup champs, at 21 years old. Learning the defensive responsibilities of center is something he'd have to do anyway when he comes over here and plays in the NHL, if he's going to continue playing center. There's less than a 0% chance that Guerin or any of his coaches would be fine with playing him 20 minutes per night next to Kaprizov if he's not good defensively.

Good analogy. I was going to use Eriksson Ek w Kap/Boldy vs Greenway/Foligno. He will get his 18-20 minutes, but one of those he will produce with a lot better than the other. Also didn’t realize that another page existed in this thread because I don’t see a page navigator at the top of the screen

Poster AKL pretty much summed it up. Temper expectations, don't overrate Yurov.
Because nothing has significantly changed with him since last year other than his team is scoring a bit less.
He's getting opportunities and ice time, he's just not scoring like last year, nor has he elevated his game like expected.

while i wish yurov was having a better season last year he proved to me without a doubt hes got talent. i maintain he should have been on the wild this season learning the nhl game. i believe in time he'll be a 30G stud.

Agreed. If he's just a 40 point guy, that would disappointing. I'm hoping for 30+40 when he really gets going. Anything above that is gravy.
