Player Discussion: Daniil Tarasov

- You can have a two-way deal with an AHL salary above $500k, I don't know the exact limits but we've seen deals like that before. Combine that with at least few games on an NHL roster and you're already making more money than he likely would in Europe or KHL.

- My impression is that Tarasov would love to get a QO from us, but we would like to keep him as one of our 3 goalies without paying him the $1.26m mandated by his QO.
I thought his QO was $1.05M as I thought he was paid that all 3 years. He actually just got just over 1.3M last year and 1.05 was just the AAV. So, you're right the QO is $1.26M. That extra $210k makes me have even less of an appetite for making the QO if I was DW.

I’m hoping this thread title can change from “Goalie of the Future?” To “Goalie of the Past”. :naughty:

Or just "Daniil Tarasov - player discussion thread" - so we don't have the old titles following players around. If he's a three goalie option for us next year I'm perfectly happy to bring him back.

I could handle Tarasov coming back with a league minimum ish NHL contract with a $300,000 or so AHL salary. I don’t see any other team offering better. He can start the season in the AHL (nobody will claim him). Yes, there is a risk if he gets called up and plays well that he could be claimed on waivers during season. But that is always the risk with a third goalie who has to pass through waivers.

This is basically what I think the "negotiations" are.

The Jackets probably wont bring back Tarasov at his QO. Or maybe they will, but nothing over it. They may be "threatening" Tarasov with a reduced contract/QO or no QO at all. And Tarasov has to debate whether or not he wants the guaranteed NHL contract or take his chances and see whats on the market (likely a two way deal).

Or maybe bolt to the KHL....
