Additional money...
2.7 mil by Brown's raise

Plus the RFAs we have to re-sign...

The two contracts from Toronto where they kept 900k for us.
1-1.5 m approx more by Frattin's new contract
.5-1 m approx more to re-sign Scrivens or another backup

Matt Greene and Willie Mitchell are UFAs...I anticipate Mitchell signing for the same, Greene if we keep, I'm not sure if he will get a raise.

I think Trevor Lewis will get a bump as well.

So unless Vanek wants to sign for $0 or the Kings trade some significant depth, there's no way.

.

Not a bad move. Kings only natural LW's are King, Clifford, and Carcillo. Frattin can play both wings but spent most of his time on the RW. Kings moved Dustin Brown to LW a few years back but he is a natural RW.

We lost Penner, a UFA, who played LW, traded Gagne last year, a LW, and Richardson signed in Vancounver (he could play every forward position). Not surprising the Kings added a UFA LW.

Vanek would be very expensive. Someone substantial like Voynov would have to be part of a deal.

Maybe Voynov + Clifford/King + Kozun/Campbell type of prospect. Of course, sabers would have to retain some of Vanek's salary as well.

It would be expensive, and I can't see the Kings parting with Slava. However, since NHL players are paid 2x monthly thru April 15, by the trade deadline, most of Vanek's salary would have been paid, so that might not be as much of a factor.

It will be curious to see where he ends up and what the price tag is.

I should clarify that in my proposal, the trade happens now rather than by the trade deadline as proposed by the op.

And that's why Vanek hasn't been traded, because (from what I've read) GM's inquiring wanted Buffalo to eat some of Vanek's salary and they declined. So that's why he wasn't traded.
But by the deadline, I think there will be a few teams that will be interested.
