I think Seattle can sign a UFA to a 8 year if this player is their selection for the expansion draft. This would mean that Price stays in MTL if this rumor is true.

No chance this is legit. There are 28/29 year olds you sign to 8 year deals, Danault is not one of them. Especially at a AAV of 5.8M? Give 8 years that thing better below 5M.

Pretty decent fit for them...Term and money will not be an issue, and they gain a good shut down center to help keep games close...Is what I would be saying if its not an 8 year deal yikes!!!

Don't underestimate a GM, they always hand out bad deals to UFA's because if they don't, someone else will. GM's don't care about 5 years down the road.

Also this is the GM who signed Hakstol. Also who is rumoured to have said to Calgary that he wants 1st + 2nd rounder for not selecting Giordano. He hasn't realized Giordano has already started to decline...

Is there some special rule that allows for 8 year contracts for UFAs from Seattle? Because otherwise that isn't allowed under the CBA.

Going to guess this is BS.

you can sign a player for 8 years with your current team before UFA date
Seattle picks him and can sign him for 8 years.

There was no way in hell Seattle was going to take Price anyway. Makes absolutely zero sense.

If this is true... should've just offered $6-6.5M for 6 years tops. Otherwise bye-bye.

I think that would've been an overpayment too, but it's 6 vs 8 years at least.
