Value of: Danault back to MON

I don't think Danault is the perfect fit for the Habs 2C role (stylistically), but I do think that his term and contract are a good fit.

With 2 years left on his contract after this year, that gives Hage time or the club time to find the right fit while being more competitive next year and the year after. Based on the market and the lack of obvious better options, I would be OK to bring him back.

I know where he's from. I also remember how contentious the contract talks were. He was more than a little frustrated. At the very least, Montreal will be on the list.
You'd think LA would be on the list considering the main culprit in pissing Danault off is working for the Kings as assistant GM, lol

We need a 2C, not an expensive 3C.

We already have Evans at 3C.

They are cut from the same cloth but danault is a better version.

He will always remain underappreciated by a certain segment of fans in Montreal. That being said, i don't think the Habs will be looking at danault, and I haven't heard any rumblings that the kings are willing to part with him, regardless.

I think he fits the kings program like a glove considering their style of play.

I'd take him back if he's essentially free. He'd be a reasonable "filler" as a 2nd line C and a good example for kids like Beck.

But I wouldn't offer 1st rounders or higher end prospects (Hage, Mailloux, Beck Reinbacher, Demidov, Kapanen) for him.

I don’t think he’s available. He’s fit perfectly with the Kings’ style of game and in the locker room. If they let him go, they would have to find another to replace him. Makes no sense for the Kings.

I'm not going to weigh in on whether or not this is a realistic proposal or even if it makes any sense, but habs are under new management now, so I doubt that he'd make that an issue.

I don’t think that he is too good of a fit. He is 32 years old now and a half point per game player this year.

Now he is still a solid second line centre but with Evans and Beck going to be the #3 and #4 centres I’d rather target a more offensive minded player. No need to have Danault, Evans and Beck down the middle. Sure it would help Suzuki with defensive assignments but I’d rather get someone more offensive for Demidov to play with next season.

I agree with this in an ideal world, but who are we getting that is a more offensive 2C? From what I’m seeing there’s not many available, and there is a decent amount of teams looking for the same type of 2C.

IMO the perfect 2C (established 2C, mid twenties, decent offensively) isnt likely to be available via trade right now. Other than that it’s a buy low candidate with a lot of risk or an older less than ideal 2C like Danault.

The Habs have a lot of assets but the question is, are they/ you willing to spend it on a less-than-ideal 2C to be competitive next year and the year after to buy Hage the time he'll need?

I would be looking for a 2nd line center that’s no older than 26 than can generate offence at a higher pace than Danault. The price might be much higher but I would rather pay more for that type of center instead of throwing prospects like Beck away for two years for a center with limited offensive skill

He would be expensive. He brings a lot of value at only a 5.5M cap hit.

I don't think it would be worth the price for Montreal at this stage of their rebuild.
Yeah, Danault hasn't been as good this year as his earlier seasons with LA, but at $5.5M with a quickly rising cap he's excellent value at 3C. Moore - Danault - Foegele has all the juice it needs to be an excellent third line for like ~$13M against the cap, and all three can play up the lineup with the latter two having deep playoff run experience.

I would trade him, but it wouldn't be cheap. I think you're looking at a tad more than what Laughton or Carlo garnered from Toronto at the deadline if he's moved this summer. It's a weak UFA center market too--even more so if Tavares and/or Bennett re-sign before July 1st.

Absolutely not. There are much better options available that we could go after, and I'm saying that not actually knowing what's available, yet it's still possible to know that there are better options than re-acquiring Danault.

Danault is such an underrated player.

He's very good at what he's doing and I'm sure offensive guys like Laine and Demidov would love to play on a line with him.

They could do their things offensively fully knowing they have Danault's back if things goes wrong.

Plus Danault's an underrated playmaker.

Personally, I'd be thrilled to see him back in MTL..

Jets would probably pay the price for him, he'd be a perfect fit next to Perfetti and another offense oriented winger and would make Arniel weak in the knees. Alas, that 10 team NTC .

Habs do need a 2C down the line for sure, I just don't think Danault styliscally is the right guy to play with Demidov and Laine next season. I'm hoping Habs try to sign Bennett this offseason or use their assets to get a better fit to play with those 2 guys, Laine needs a playmaking center to produce, that just ain't Danault.
