Pre-Game Talk: Dallas vs Oile-OMG IS THAT A CAT WORKING AT MCDONALDS!?!

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Brar saying he picked up a Win is some next level turd polishing. Team needed every one of 5 GF from a Non McDrai lineup AND the NHL calling a skinnershit goal back just to eke out the W against a West conference door stop.

The W had nothing to do with Skinner, nothing at all. The team barely got it despite Skinner. Common enough plot.

even seeing his picture gives me ptsd. Or the California Closet commercial.

Emberson was acquired for Ceci

pure speculation...I don't see it happening

wasn't hindsight for me, I said at the time to sign these guys, use the LTIR cap space and deal with the potential of Kane coming back in Jan/Feb then...then they would have 4 months to find room (ie make trades, send down players etc...) to fit Kane under the cap

disagree, we have Walman because of Kane's LTIR space being used
we have Fredric because of the small amount of cap space accrued

they valued FLEXIBILITY over their OWN PROSPECTS whom they drafted and developed for several years and PROVED in the playoffs they can be counted on to make a difference...it's insane

Thanks for the correction on Emberson.

Nobody would argue with you that the right course of action was to forego Skinner and keep the cheap guys you drafted and developed.

But don't confuse that huge mistake (Jackson) with the decision on how to handle the already issued offer sheets (Bowman). That was an entirely different decision.

You would have pulled out all the stops to keep them both, it would have meant:
i) betting FULLY on Broberg, which you'd be happy to do, ok its risky, but fine... but,
ii) zero cap flexibility if you get that wrong
iii) zero improvements on the back end (except Broberg's upside vs Ceci and Emberson vs Desharnais)
iv) no deadline additions (no Walman, no Frederic)
v) if Kane comes back early, you would have to find $5M. You don't mention how you would have accomplished that? Not a lot of options... are you trading Nuge or Hyman? or do you have a buyer for two of Arvidsson, Henrique, Kulak & Skinner?

Once you do that, how does your roster compare to the one that lost in the finals last year? Or the one we have now?

I'm not arguing with you that (iii) above didn't turn out right. I'm arguing that you haven't considered the downside of making that call in July/August. It's the very nature of revisionist/hindsight thinking that is allowing you to claim you were right back then and management was wrong.

Ultimately there were two risk factors that drove them to not match:
1) lack of belief that Broberg was a better bet than what they can buy at the deadline (ie Broberg vs Walman), and
2) risk that Kane coming back means losing RNH or Hyman or two of Henrique, Skinner, Arvidsson or Kulak

Either of those could have been a catastrophe for the season that you aren't considering with your revisionist lens.

Why are we playing our backup against the stars?

:)
Yes I would start Pickard against the Stars and Skinner against Seattle.

Pickard tends to do very well when he is rested and he's had some rest now. You are never going to get 50+ games out of him but if you are strategic minded then you can get good mileage out of him.

Get ready. Come playoff time this team has no shot with this plug in net. Our only hope is pickard gets a bulk of the starts.

I didn't take the anti anxiety medicine. Opted out, wanted to be clear and made it easier. I squirm a bit at a dentist like a root canal but this was OK. Visualizing can get you out of your head and thinking positive thoughts. I have some learned techniques, lots, for dealing with stress so its easy to sit still. you don't want to have a proctology exam or a scope inserted guess where? lol.
First eye i didn't take the meds. Bad move. They wouldn't let me go home until my heart rate dropped. Lol. It was like 160!
Second one meds helped and it was not problem.

Vision is 20/20 now but my floaters are way worse which f***ing sucks.

So legitimate question.

Does McDavid hit 100 points this year?

He’s currently at 90. Barring an early return or an injury setback, he’s probably playing April 1st vs VGK at the earliest.

That leaves 9 games until the end of the season. Does he get 10+ points in that span?
I hear ya, but this is the first time IDGAF about his regular season point totals. Be 100% healthy after ensuring we make the playoffs. That is all that matters

Bingo.

He had a bad regular season, save for him absolutely torching the league down the stretch, that poor overall assessment is pretty much established at this point. All irrelevant if he brings it in the post season, and he has to be fresh and healthy to do it.

I had a high danger career. So my heart rate didn't go up much for this. The waiting was a problem for me. Don't like waiting so it was some of that being annoying but the DR and staff are nice and soon as I was in there no worries. My biggest concern was Nurses saying I might have to have General anesthetic or the antianxiety med. I explained I wanted neither and I'd be fine and then Doc said I did very well. Not nervous, not twitching. Just viewed it as a positive procedure and thinking how much it was gonna help me, quality of life, seeing better. etc. Visualizing and conceptualizing is powerful. Tools people can use in different situations.

I have a poor reaction to sedatives or antianxiety pills. Stuff freaks me out a bit. Alcohol is OK;)

Only thing I had was local anesthetic drop in they eye. They give that to everybody just before procedure.

Most of my floaters in my right eye are gone except for a very small one that I barely notice.

So you're praising the whole team for 5 goals for and blaiming a single goalie for a breakaway and a 4th rebound conversion.
Pretty typical that logic isn't applied

This heel turn on Broberg is ridiculous.

He asked for a trade because Knoblauch wouldn't play him and he was on the NHL-AHL express all year.

Then he was put in a pressure situation in the postseason and did well.

Lots of Oilers fans wanted to keep Broberg.

But since he signed an offer sheet since the Oilers front office lowballed him and coaching jerked him around for 3 seasons, he's the villain now.
This can be said for Holloway as well. He basically said he was told he wouldn't get the opportunity he was looking for.
