Doubt Lehtonen would work he makes $100,000 more then Quick and would need to be left unprotected at the expansion draft same with Niemi. I would think that Lombardi would want someone with an expiring contract.

Highly doubt the Stars do it. I think they are going to wait until Murray is good to go for the Pens and then trade Niemi+ to the Pens for Fleury.

I've always been a big fan of Kari Lehtonen, pretty sure he makes wayy to much though.

While I doubt a trade happens, Dallas could retain 50%on either making Niemi a 2.25 contact and Lehtonen a 2.95.

Not sure how tight you cap is but Niemi at 2.25 for a temporary fix / back up after isn't super expensive. Only problem is he isn't all that good

That's the issue. While he may be an upgrade on what the Kings have now, it's just going to hurt their draft position.

Seems like it could work. LA needs a starter, and Dallas has two on short-term contracts. What does each fan base think?

The would not work for LA as both Dallas goalies make to much for la to take on and neither one is very good. Plus no need to help Dallas dump one of those bad contracts so they can turn around and trade for a good goalie. No interests for this King fan would rather play with the guys we have than take on one of the below average Stars goalies.

Just thinking out loud here...

Perhaps Dallas gets a Bishop trade worked out, possibly with an extension. I wonder how they could convince the Kings to take a retained Niemi/Lehtonen so they could pull the trigger on the Bishop deal.

Add Oleksiak and take Greene/Gilbert back? Maybe Oleksiak is too similar to McNabb. Nemeth is even more enticing than Oleksiak but would Dallas be willing to move him?

Would Kings be intetested in Desrosiers? If Dallas gets Bishop and extend him, I assume Desrosiers is on the table.

Not a DAL or LAK fan by the way.

Nobody wants a back up making that kind of $$$. Highly doubt Pitt would touch him. That's the problem with fixing the Stars goaltending is nobody will take the guys you have at their high salaries.

Niemi at 50% isn't 2.25. That's not an insane amount to fit

Probably just a typo, but @50% he IS at 2.25mil cap hit. Lehtonen is at 2.95mil like someone earlier had pointed out.

While not an insane amount, considering Lehtonen was the 56th goaltender in sv% for goalies with over 10 starts and niemi was 58th. Also Lehtonen was 59th for GSAA at -9.84 and nimei was 64th at -11.91.

Why in the world would Pitt take Niemi in any deal for Fleury. I don't see that happening.

As said to make salary work, to expose a goalie in the expansion draft, and because it is the only realistic place imo Fleury can be moved to and they have to move him at some point. Makes perfect sense.

It will come down to Who gets shipped to Dallas first. MAF or Bishop. Either way dallas will have to retain half the salary of which ever goalie is going back the other way

Very possible. However, MAF >>> Niemi. So Dallas would have to add a piece...and the premo piece they had to offer went to Russia so...

Dustin Brown to Pittsburgh

Marc-Andre Fleury to Dallas (when Murray returns)

Kari Lehtonen to LA

And everyone can enjoy each other's terrible contract.

Dallas acquires Brown and then Pittsburgh agrees to do Fleury for Brown straight up?

Share whatever it is you're smoking with the rest of us please.

It was a joke based on the contracts of all three players being within range of one another and every fan of those respective team's wanting out of their contracts.

I guess that one went over your head, or you're too slow to notice it.

Only problem is that neither goalie has really proven themselves to be starter material and would probably not be that great as backups. Plus they are expensive from a salary and cap hit point of view which also makes acquiring them more unlikely for the Kings as neither of them really would be likely to be able to fill in as a starter goalie in a successful manner.

My sarcasm detector is broken, or it didn't look like a joke. Or both.

Anyways....

LAK will be looking hard for a UFA 2017 goalie, but they won't find much. I bet they'd love to go after Mason/Neuvirth or Elliott, but they'll probably have to settle for Bernier or Kuemper or Miller or Pavelec.

If they go after any multi-year goalie, they might have to find a way to move Brown or Greene or most likely King. Hopefully Mersch or Auger or Kempe are ready. Easier pill to swallow us probably Niemi @ 50 percent ($2.25).
