Post-Game Talk: Dallas Does Skinner

Agree on Skinner part...half agree on Doc. It's a PK so ...as a D... you sometimes can't commit that much to fully clear out the front. Idk if I'm even thinking right. I'm still just stunned at what I saw!

It's crazy how thoroughly they controlled the game only to get scored on 5 times in the 3rd. I'm stunned too.

All we want is an average goalie. Skinner isn't that. When you're incredible for two games and virtually unplayable for four, those are really, really bad odds.

All we want is this absolute Sieve to just average even 895 for gods sake. 900 is like Patrick Roy. Not stink it up for a few, get bailed out, then play good.

I can't say I agree with the bolded.
I've been his number one hater this whole season but gave him props after the b2b shutouts against VGK.
I've seen several other posters who also criticize the shit out of him, but give him props when he plays well.
However Skinner playing well has been relatively on the low scale. That's been the issue with 74 all season long.

You just proved my point. You gave him props for back to back SHUTOUTS.

There are plenty of other games where he plays well and lets in a goal that the never-played-the-position guys around here take issue with and nobody gets to hear the end of it for days on end… until the next game… where the unfair blame from the prior game spills over into doubt about the next goal that goes in as well… could even be a breakaway, but Stu just doesn’t give us the BIG SAVES…

I’m all for objective criticism… most goalies (masochists, perfectionists) get legit hard at the thought of self machination.

But most of you guys are NO WHERE NEAR objective when it comes to Skinner.

Tonight, subjectively… cuz goalie stats suck… tonight he was very bad on goals 3 and 4. I’m 49 for two more weeks and 90% certain I would have had them both.

He needs to figure out how to rebound after a goal. He's letting 2 or 3 in rapid succession far too often.

That's actually what made Pickard effective. He'd let in something dreadful, but then wouldn't let in another goal immediately after.

And again, the one that's not accounted for is irrelevant because all of the goal scorers for the stars tonight have average to below average finishing in sample sizes of literally hundreds of games.

The graph clearly shows the Oilers dictated the game but couldn't win because Skinner let in 4 goals on 9 shots.

If you refuse to believe that Duchene's goal was bad, then that's all on you. I'm not blaming Skinner mainly for the loss, but he was god awful tonight. The difference with posters like you and I is that I don't deflect blame elsewhere and aren't ignorant towards 'graphs. You're a lost cause to even have a dispute or debate about.

He is totally objective. Stu has had two GREAT games and four TERRIBLE games. The reality you don't see is that Stu has been bad twice as much as he's been good in the entire playoffs. That's why people bash him more than praise him. Because he has more bad games than good ones. Just because the good ones are great doesn't mean those four losses that are mostly on him just disappear...it just makes his stats look better.

The full replay clearly showed Kane’s stick coming in contact with his left cheek under his eye. It was a legitimate penalty and there was no embellishment.

I figured he caught him, I still think it was sold more than what it was. Either way it was a penalty on Kane.

I mean... can you argue that he was good this playoffs aside from those b2b shutouts? Why else did Picks have to go in to save the Oilers and having a 6-0 record as a result in net?
Skinner has been objectively one of the worst goalies the whole season.

If he wasn't so inconsistent in net, the criticism would be rather quiet.

I don't need a goddamn graph for proof the Oilers are dominating, I watch it with my own eyes...I saw them give Dallas nothing, and play in the offensive zone for most of the 40 minutes

I already said Duchene's goal was somewhat "weak" but that was a fire drill from the whole team too

Worth noting we're still undefeated in these playoffs when our Goaltending is within several standard deviations of league average.

Dallas is the most penalized team in the playoffs. Weird how tonight they were less penalized.

Dan Cloutier was actually decent for a few years there. He gets maligned mainly because of that one Lidstrom goal.

Skinner is way worse than Cloutier ever was. Its an insult to Cloutier to compare him to Skinner.

I cant think of a playoff goalie worse than old Self-help Stu. Maybe Ty Conklin but MacT only ever gave him five minutes (during which he managed to lose us the game in).

Tim Cheveldae maybe? The Wings were always let down by his goaltending in the playoffs.

Hopefully Pickard is healthy soon. That way if Stu goes through another bad stretch we have some insurance. The PK has been ass this whole postseason. Maybe lineup changes are needed? Who do we have that's sitting that could PK? Philp? Savoie?

I was worried the moment I heard Pickard wouldn't even be going to Dallas. Immediate thought being what if Skinner has another whoops goalie pull game.

Pickard saved our bacon in LA series. Now we need another savior.

Its not just Skinner at this point. I mean he's so bad it goes beyond,. His mere presence in goal when he shits the bed gives opponents confidence and our own club thinking "here we go again". You can't play a better road game than Oilers were playing in first 51mins and the score is still 3-2 with Dallas just a shot away. really any shot. What does that feel like on the bench?

I am not worried guys. Oilers were up by 2 at one point and looking good it was the penalties and the poor pk that sunk us. If the Oilers clean that up we'll be back on track.

The team will look like a fire drill when they see their goalie panicking in net. Why else did they play so well against VGK the last two games when he had b2b shutouts?
