Post-Game Talk: Dallas Does Skinner

I wouldn’t agree with that… when he plays PERFECT people reluctantly give backhanded props.

When he plays average, he still gets picked apart… to the point that any of the goalies in here have to step in and defend the onslaught.

Tonight he was bad and goals 3 and 4… zero compete.

And then Kane and Perry put things out of reach.

Plenty of guys need an attitude adjustment

I can't say I agree with the bolded.
I've been his number one hater this whole season but gave him props after the b2b shutouts against VGK.
I've seen several other posters who also criticize the shit out of him, but give him props when he plays well.
However Skinner playing well has been relatively on the low scale. That's been the issue with 74 all season long.

Ok what about the 2 playoff games before that?

Stuart Skinner is a mediocre backup being carried by one of the best teams in the NHL. A big part of those shutouts was the team basically keeping VGK to minimal scoring chances. That's probably not gonna happen against Dallas.

I personally think Stuart Skinner's best is miles better than Calvin Pickard's best, but Skinner's worst is miles worse than Pickard and unfortunately we see more of the latter than the former. That's just kinda who he is right now.
why can't the Oilers do that against Dallas? they did it in the first 2 periods

Watch the second goal again. Watch every angle. Skinner is busy sniffing Marchments ass instead of looking around. It was Marchment and one Oiler D in front. He could have had a clear view. One angle shows Skinner face a foot from Marchments ass. Apparently he thought Marchments ass was big enough to stop any shot. jk.
Apparently he did! I agree...I wouldn't fault him if like... Marchment and another Dallas player were screening him...but it was all Oilers...and he just ...kind of stood there.

Dallas scored 4 goals on 9 shots on Skinner in the 3rd.
To me that's the most inexcusable factor even despite the Oilers taking those penalties.
The goalie has to be the best PKER on ice when the team is down a man on the PK.

Stuart brigade can take off the rose colored glasses already.

Yeah, idk, when you have guys clearly boxed out and there's no beautiful passing play - you can't have a save percentage worse than NHL average in the shootout.

Knew it was over when the floater went in to start Period 3.
Your most important penalty killer can't track a no-danger puck... 6'4 goalie trying to crane his neck around the wrong side of the screen away from the side of play. Either perfect, or crap. Either 5+ goals against or 0. No in between. No Pickard to save the series this time either if Skinner can't immediately get back on track. He had to be the best player in the 3rd and he was the worst. PK wasn't great or anything, but like do floaters like that go in from our powerplay? Not a chance. Granlund shot was perfect. Duchene goal, Skinner just like stopped playing? Was waiting to complain before the puck was even in the net? Ghastly stuff.

Two goal lead, only job is to kill the 1 minute powerplay to start, don't take dumb penalties and make Dallas chase all period 5 on 5. Silly stuff from Perry and Kane, even Duchene oversold that one.
Holy shit what an embarrassing loss. Pissed away a sure win because they couldn't focus up for 20 minutes. The sag was so obvious after goal 2, and the worst part is, Dallas got so much life from that, it was a listless powerplay until that one went in. They got reminded there's always a chance with Stuart Skinner in net.

High sticks always get called if they're seen. It's almost like delay of game. Oilers have had a bunch of high sticking penalties these playoffs.

That's nice. Tripping, hooking and holding are still part of the rulebook. I don't really care about the ref's fetish for high sticks. Call the book or f***ing leave.

Up 3-1 and all kinds of chances to finish off the overated Starfish’s. After that you can smell how crappy they were. By far the better team for 40……again

That works until Stuart Skinner sharts it away. Basically every GA tonight was savable.
What do they even do on the PK?

"Let's not screen him and try to block em, it could go in"

"Let's not screen him and let him see it. Uh oh, it could beat him clean"

LMAO

What part of this can't you figure out? The Oilers did control the game until Stu decided to let 4 goals on 9 shots against in the 3rd. Come the f*** on, CHT. I don't have any beef with you, but its astounding how you can't even grasp the simplest concept.

He did say a save by Skinner once or twice when it was no where near hit or Nurse or someone blocked it...I noticed that too.
I'm almost 180 on my SS support but I'm still not totally on your guys team. I think a couple goals were not that bad but... not that 2nd one. Yes he was screened... by about 3-4 Oilers! If you can't move around your own players then....
That second goal was equal parts Nurse and Skinner's fault in my opinion. First, Marchement had both feet firmly planted IN the crease. Skinner just gave him that space for some reason. If he tried to take that space back, he would have at least got a goaltender interference call in his favour, because you can't take that space from a goalie, full stop. Second, Nurse just let him stand there and didn't even try to clear him from that space. You gotta at least try to clear that guy out if you're the defenseman there.

Hilarious sequence in one Dallas pk. Skinner holding puck too long, Steele on forecheck could go right in but doesn't, then Skinner still holding puck so Steele goes for it, Skinner loses puck. Was like watching an Eagle swoop in on a frozen rabbit.

Steele: I might as well just go get the puck. he's just standing there frozen.

"because the graph says so!" isn't the argument you think it is

This pretty much sums it up. And you’re bang on, the PK was working ok on that kill to end the second and start the third, then he lost it.

The PK has been far from perfect especially down low, but plug Joe average NHL goalie in there and I bet they’re around 80% this playoff instead of 60 or whatever they are. It’s mostly goaltending.

Hopefully Pickard is healthy soon. That way if Stu goes through another bad stretch we have some insurance. The PK has been ass this whole postseason. Maybe lineup changes are needed? Who do we have that's sitting that could PK? Philp? Savoie?
