Post-Game Talk: Dallas Does Skinner

Skinner is who we have now though. We beat Vegas with him. We can do the same against Dallas
Yep. Lets just not allow scoring chances ever of hope the opponent botches every chance or misses net. Worked in Vegas series...

Trouble with this game is Skinner just jailbreaked the Stars scoring and their PP. Once you give a team that its much harder to take it back. Until the third Stars had no confidence. Then came Skinner, the great neutralizer.

On that one in particular, Duchene was moving his stick up when Kane's stick came in and it kind of knocked Kane's stick into Duchene's face. A bit of bad luck, but there was really no reason for Kane to get his stick in there in the first place.

The only reason Kane had to reach in at all was because he got caught standing around and Duchene beat him clean to open ice. It was as much of a lazy play than anything else.

What was I saying before the series...? The Oilers have to learn to kill a penalty.

So, if the Oilers' PK had come through, this was probably a 4-3 Oilers' win; instead, a 6-3 loss.

(And no, I'm not going to crap on Skinner. Looked like the 2nd Dallas goal had some smell on it, but otherwise I didn't think he had much chance on the other four.)

The PK on the road is just dreaful. Like, they've beat all the odds by getting this far with that road-PK.

Good news is, the Oilers start almost every series like this (i.e., crap). Just have to win game two, and we're good.

Goals 2 and 3 are brutal goals. There’s traffic. It’s the playoffs. Maybe don’t stare at the guys back that’s right in front of you and do nothing but go down. If skinner fights for position and gets bumped by the guy standing two feet in the crease it’s goalie interference. And as a bonus he may fight to get in position to make the save.

That's the no second effort Skinner. Minimal effort trying to find pucks. Just dropping any time he imagines a shot is coming. Second efforts non-existent. If he's lucky enough that the first one hits him, there is going to be loads of time to put a puck into some open net if it's loose.

This is not good. Every game of these playoffs the Oilers have been the better team, even the first two losses to LA. This game the first two periods were a continuation of these playoffs and then all of a sudden they shit the bed. They were in total control.

They were defintely not the same players in the third. But this group is also prone to sagging when they see Skinner in his drop to the knees on every shot, zero second effort, depression mode. Just a terrible third period by the group.
Anybody would. Its just human. Goals will buoy one side and deflate the other. It happened both ways in this game. When the Oilers got the two goal lead and Nurse hitting post Stars were rattled. When Skinner was giving up goals on sale the Oilers were terrified because they've seen this movie way too many times.

I mean good on McD to try support Skinner and say the things he did after Vegas series but they all know what us fans know. Skinner not Effing good enough. I doubt Skinner takes any fault in post game.

"I just didn't see the puck or where it it went on these 3-4 goals, it happens"

The loss tonight wasn't entirely on Stu but it looks like Pickard will have to save the season and make a warp 9 ramp up in the next few episodes.

Yes and no? I guess a bit belongs to the officiating which was inconsistent and decisively advantaged the Stars. I mean I was told that you only get PPs if you control the game 5 on 5. Yet the Stars got crushed for 40 minutes and somehow was rewarded with 3 straight PPs in the 3rd. What magic!

But as much as I want to point out the faults in our team game after the Stars made it 3-2, it fits a greater pattern that also includes Stuart Skinner. This team doesn't trust him an ounce and its clear they get rattled when he starts to fart it up back there. I acknowledge the team should be able to play through that but they've demonstrated last year and this year that they can't. As soon as they have no faith in the guy between the pipes, everything else seems to fall apart. You can't say you haven't been seeing the same thing.

Google "Stanley cup champion by year"

Ask yourself how many of them you'd think would still have won if you repeated their playoff path with Skinner replacing their goalie. It's probably what, a handful in the century+ of this sport?

I don't even want to get in the weeds of this individual game, I'm talking big picture. How do you expect to win a goddamn Stanley Cup with your goalie farting in his own mouth the overwhelming majority of the time? He can't string together a single week of competent play.

Organizational incompetence that he is still our starting goalie.

Dallas Stars doing absolutely nothing on PP for 2 periods and well into the one they had to start third.

Stu Skinner: hold my beer. I'll give them a free goal like I'm not even in the net. COMPLETELY changes everything in the game. Third goal wasn't good. Skinner who is big, real big, somehow too low. 4th goal was lol of the playoffs. It just keeps coming.

Skinner in one period handed Stars confidence in scoring and confidence on PP. You complete f***ing dope of a goalie.

The Dallas PP was basically hinged on having Stu Skinner in net. Gee guys if we can just get any zone entries and get any shot on goal theres a chance....
Agree… just zero compete on the 3rd and 4th goal.

He just lost his mind honestly.

3rd goal he has a clear look above Marchment and Nurse as Heiskanen starts his shot. It’s going generally stick side, Skinner sees that, so instead of going down butterfly, cheating stick side… you know the side that is completely open and where he’d be able to see past the screen? Nope… let me plant my face into the ass of that screen and hope. Defeatistgoaltending right there… That was just horrible.

And the forth? What a coward… he didn’t even try to get across. Complaining for contact… that was literally 5 seconds ago you kitty cat. Imagine having the opposition block a shot for you and you STILL don’t get across the net for the rebound. Dallas literally could have scored twice on that play.

Ugh, ugh, ugh…. Put me or @tardigrade81 in… at least we have the passion and gumption for it.

how about the Oilers don't take stupid penalties? or score on their PPs more often?
Why not both? Your goalie has to be your best penalty killer often times. The team dominated even strength for the most part, all you ask is that the goalie make a big save or two the few times they do allow high quality chances and it wasn't done tonight. It's not all on Skinner but he's a big reason why they lost tonight.
