No doubt this IS a very tough road trip. There are several other excuses too. No one of these should excuse a losing streak. But the sum of them is also pretty tough.

The loss to the Kings was bad. 14 SOG. Are you kidding? But the last 2 were close against good teams.

We all knew Jets were not going to finish the season with 69 wins. I just hope they can right the ship for the next game. 4 losses in a row is getting into a rut.
The Jets lost to the Kings was BAD (everyone was basically off) and it happens to EVERY team sometime during the season and probably more than once.
Vegas after they beat the Jets the next day they got shut out 6-0 by Utah by a goalie playing his first game of the season who only played 6 NHL games in his career. ... that's BAD.
The Kings game before the Jets ... the Sharks scored 7 goals vs Kings on just 21 shots now that's BAD.
One quarter of the season is complete and I have seen enough of the Jets that they are in the top tier of the NHL but sometimes S**t happens ... all I'm worried about is major injuries at this point.

This - so much this. What I find interesting is to observe how many posters seem completely oblivious to the many markers that suggest the team has enjoyed a short, unsustainable performance - and seemingly expect it to continue throughout the entire season. Expectations get set unrealistically high - a sure recipe for disappointment/heartache.

I predicted 98 points plus or minus a couple. Our hot streak might push that total up a bit but my expectations was a playoff team but not a contender and that is still my expectations.

AJF or JAD
JAD looked pretty good in TC. AJF would replace Kupari's speed on the 4th line. Both have NHL experience in bottom 6 roles.

Scheif can't take FOs, can't shoot properly and passing may be affected too. Is he really better than any replacement right now? He appears to be trying hard but he isn't accomplishing much, if anything.
Kup is nowhere near replacing Scheif.
Not even close.

And landing at 2:30am, often in different time zones from where they took off

Your circadian ryrhym doesn't give a f*** about what kind of plane you're on. Or are these guys somehow immune to the laws of physiology?

How does your body like the next morning after staying up to watch the west coast games? A little sluggish?
Or where you shop, eat out or maybe play golf?
Sure it makes a difference, the however is all teams travel at awful hours.
The Jets are simply settling back into what they are.
A fantastic start is good to help them stay somewhat competitive in our division.
I hope we can get some wins this week, one game at a time

I`m personally persuaded that Stanley is very much an organizational "choice", moreso than a coaching "choice", but I suspect that to understand it we have to look deeper than normal. There is firstly the unanswerable question of the team owner`s possible role in decision-making. But there is also the question of how decisions are made within the organizational structure set up by Chevy himself. It seems to be undersized and somewhat unstructured, with Chevy probably relying very heavily on advice/feedback from Zinger and Hillier, his two main lieutenants. Now it is not hard to visualize the messaging coming into Chevy`s ear from these two guys whenever decisions were to be made concerning Stanley. They both went strongly to bat in favor of the selection and draft strategy, putting their reputations on the line to resolve some strongly differing views amongst the scouts. They undoubtedly find it difficult to confront the harsh reality that things have simply not worked out as conceived at the time.
I can picture Zinger going up to Chevy
Logan is reeaalllyyyy tall, when I stand next to him, he’s really really really tall

all teams travel at awful times, but do the teams have 14 straight games with travel involved and no extra days off? the new narrative that we are just regressing from a hot start would make more sense if we looked the same and were just not scoring at the same rate or getting the same amount of saves, but we don't look the same, we look slower then we did to start the year and are having more breakdowns and more mental mistakes which comes from fatigue

yes, obviously we will see regression from a 15-1 start but this is more then that...

The Jets are not flying Flair Airlines with no leg room, a screaming crying baby on the next seat, multiple layovers and passengers packed in like sardines like the rest of us plebs. It is more like a 3 hour highway drive with you having the entire back of the SUV to yourself, even comfier than that as they can walk around etc.
They charter an older Air Canada Airbus 320 I believe nothing fancy

Scheifele can't take FOs and can't shoot. Does that leave him any better than Namestnikov?

Even if the injury is relatively minor it seems to be preventing him from playing well. So what's the point of keeping him in the lineup?
Because even hurt he is far better than the next man up. His injury will gradually get better and he will be back to normal.

What the Jets are doing is predictable and this is the pattern we have seen before. They are a team that gets lucky with a hot streak now and then that is only good enough to tantalize before they go into full regression and reel off a string of bad losses. They are chronic pretenders not contenders and look good as long as teams think they are easy, but as soon as teams view them as a legit threat and prepare seriously for them they fold like a cheap suit. Why is this? I think they have some key players who just consistently do not perform well under pressure. Ehlers and Connor are the two prime examples of this. Whenever you need either of those players to steps up when the chips are down they disappear. Talented yes, but just not mentally or physically tough. Neither of them would get past the third line on a money team like Vegas. Every time this team tanks on an extended losing jag, those two lines led by Ehlers and Connor completely disappear. For the Dallas game after the 2nd intermission I predicted that Jets would give up the go ahead goal with less than 7 min left, and right on cue they did not disappoint. This has become the modus operandi for this team over the last 7 years so much so that it is almost guaranteed to predict when they will cave. Jets need a big shake up such as trading Connor otherwise this will just rinse and repeat until their competitive window closes.

I do think it matters what the last 7 years look like. They are a big part of what to expect in year 8...
Sure - but what really matters is what he looks like tomorrow.
I get that he has had a rough development - but isn't what he becomes more important than what he was?

The question is, can he be better if he's healthy and plays consistently
That is likely how the Jets are looking at it -

Don't disagree.

I'm not the one who said we needed a goon. I replied to the suggestion with if we need a goon then lets at least have a good one.

Seriously, if the need for a big LHD is that great then go out and find a better one. Doesn't matter if he is only 6'6 or 6'5. Doesn't have to be a top 4 man either. We are just looking to replace Stanley.

BTW, I appreciate that Stan has tried to learn to fill that role. Must have gotten someone to give him a couple of hockey fighting lessons. He sure was bad at it 2-3 years ago. Does OK now.
I know you were replying to a post that used the term goon - but I think the term was being used loosely - Stan's no goon and everyone knows that.
They might go out and find someone better - I agree

Seriously if you look at a team's schedule you can basically predict if they will be going on a winning or losing streaks.
The Dallas game in the 3rd period Jets were outplaying the Stars ... Nino finishes his check on Marchment and lazy Marchment instead of going back to help his teamates ... he rushes up the ice to take a pass and does a spin o rama move and gets lucky top corner. It's a game of inches that game could have went either way. Scheifele doesn't miss too often ... its usually back in the net on that last minute shot.
Was Dallas missing a top 6 and top 4 D man?
Dallas had 5 PPs including a 5 on 3 ... I didn't see them blowing out the Jets but if my memory servies me correct the Jets did blow out the Stars in Winnipeg right?
I will make you a bet if the Jets don't have any injuries they will have a winning record in March/April just by only having to play 3 games a week.

Air Canada Jetz. A320s in an all 2x2 (business class) configuration with a couple of tables so you can take a closer look at the spreadsheets after the game.

You don't sound too excited at that part.
I'm the middle sister, the underachiever. My older sister by 4 years got her degree, bravely overcoming all obstacles from being deaf, went off to Europe for a year, bravely overcame the difference between ASL and USL, came back and completed law school, bravely winning gold medals and getting married. She now gets featured in magazines about how bravely she practices law while being deaf.

I got my degree, booked my year in Europe, then everything got shut down by Covic. Sat on my bum for a year, then followed a BF to Manitoba to complete an M.A. Now my baby sister by 3 years has graduated, gotten into law school and gotten engaged. And I'm going back to Van to listen to my mother, in her most tragic PhD voice, sigh about what a shame it is that I'm teaching at a community college.

What I'm excited about ----------- never mind, I should hit erase here instead of send.

They don't want a goon - they want some beef on the blueline that can also drop the gloves when needed.
Right now, that's Stanley so they are going to play it out - more rope than many would give but it is what it is.
I think this is right, they want a hybrid goon. Someone that has decent talent, but can goon it up, if the going gets rough. I think they had the perfect guy for this, with Brendan Dillon, but chose to get rid of him ? He was a solid defenseman, with a good shot, and would drop the gloves with anyone. In my opinion the perfect guy, but yet they chose to hang on to Stanley ? just doesn't make sense ?

Here's an interesting take on each teams schedule this year.

Out of curiosity, I looked at Carolina's November, since they also had a brutal month. Look what happens towards the end of it

1000024101.jpg

This is an excellent team, just like the Jets... yet they lose 4 of their last 6, and get shitkicked by Florida twice

I'll spend some time looking at other teams later, but to pretend that the schedule doesn't affect a teams performance is just idiotic
