Good move for Dallas to grab two of the few good rentals for just a 1st. Not the biggest fan of Granlund, but it's worth a chance. They're in go mode and can't be choosy.

Way too early to say that lmao, Grier has done a great job but picks and prospects don’t always pan out and once you have a great team assembled they have to actually execute.
Completely agree. They've been losing for some time now and ridding the losing culture doesn't automatically come with good prospects.
We've seen it before many times; Buffalo, Detroit, Anaheim. It's been years with these teams saying "I like their future", but I wouldn't consider any of them in great shape.

It's a mad world, where Granlund basically gets as much as, or more than JT Miller. Especially when you factor in that Cody Ceci is effectively negative value in this deal, for any sane individual with eyeballs.
I could tear apart this hot take, but I see you’re a Canucks fan so I’ll just say I hope moving Miller revitalizes your squad.

Laine is the Finn he needs to come play with...

And Laine really needs more talent on his line right about now...
i would have loved a DAL Laine pick up, but he was an expensive gamble that MTL could make and its def panning out

Granlund didn't return more than Miller. The NYR pick > Dallas pick. Chytil + Mancini > 4th.

Not too surprising when you really think about it though is it?

Miller comes with a big contract with term and had basically full say in where he went (that, and the Canucks basically had to move him with everything going on). That return was never going to be great. The options were very limited there for the Canucks
This, not sure why it’s so hard for people, yet every year people are still surprised.

I enjoy Filipovic, maybe he just meant he sees what he would consider to be better options
but in the end it comes down to who you can get and what you can get them for

I hope Ceci plays better than his record would suggest
I was also hoping Dumba was being pushed out.. buuuut
sh@ in one hand and sh@ in the other i suppose

Miller had a NMC. He also has a large cap hit with term, which further limits the market for an in-season trade.

Ceci is worth a 2nd or a 3rd round pick as a rental. Edmonton had to pay to dump him because of the timing of the move. They moved him after all the cap was spoken for, and they dealt from a position of weakness. A veteran RHD who plays 18-20 minutes a night on a good team is going for at minimum a 3rd at the deadline.

They got both for a 1st and a 4th (conditionally could become a 3rd).

Ceci might be the best player in this deal. Granlund lighting it up, sure, but with all the best offensive opportunities he can handle. He's turning 33 this month.

I know Dallas can keep making moves, and maybe Granlund finds chemistry, but the 1st rounder is a prime trade chip.
Saying that Ceci might be a better player than Granlund makes it difficult to take any part of what you are saying seriously.

There’s something in Dallas that makes Finnish players thrive. Granlund has been having a good season especially since Elkund was moved to Celebrini’s line.

Granlund was going through a really rough domestic situation while he was in Pittsburgh. His ex-wife was cheating on him with some dude she met over the internet in England.
How do you know the details of that??

Assuming everyone is healthy for the playoffs, which I have my doubts for Seguin, but let's say everyone is ready,

Robertson - Hintz - Johnston
Marchment - Duchene - Seguin
Granlund - Benn - Stankoven
Steel - Bourque - Dadonov
Blackwell, Back

Harley - Heiskanen
Lindell - Lyubushkin
Bischel - Ceci
Dumba, Smith

Pretty solid line up, but i wouldn't be surprised to see them make another deal, but with how many teams are fighting for a playoff spot, there may not be much available. Good for Nill to make some moves now

I’m not sure why this thread is filled with comments like this ”LOL tHiS is wut they are doing to upgrade their defense!?”

I think it’s probably just a visceral reaction to seeing Ceci’s name?

When healthy, their 1-3 of Miro, Harley and Lindell is elite. Bush has been more than fine as a reliable stay at home compliment. Bichsel is coming on fast. Lundkvist is fine.

Ceci is just adds a bit more depth and a ton of playoff experience to the group. They got him so they can shoot guys like Dumba, Smith and Capobianco to the moon as they go through normal regular season injury attrition. He will probably get pretty solid minutes until everybody is healthy but he will be a third pair RHD in the playoffs, a spot he is more than suited for.

This team already gives up the third least goals in the entire league, what were people expecting them to do on defense? They improved on the margins for cheap with a tack-on to a deal that’s primary purpose was to replace Seguin.

One of my old favorite players joining the team that broke 9-year old me's heart. Barf. Don't you go breaking my heart too, Granny!

Congratulations Dallas, go f*** yourselves. :) I hope Granlund does awesome for you guys against everyone but the Wild.

Love getting Granlund. Stars needed 1 more skill guy for the top 9.

Ceci a right handed D man with size, will be a serviceable piece ..even if it's for the bottom pair.

If the stars make the West finals again. Giving up pick 28-32 is fair.

Granlund almost PPG can't wait to see the skill he adds.

Another Finn too

Good deal.

Meh. Laine scores on the PP, but lacks speed and is mediocre defensively. I'm hoping he isn't extended as he makes his line slower and less effective.
