Trade: [DAL/LAL/UTAH] Luka Doncic is a Laker, Anthony Davis is a Maverick and many other pieces

Couldn't believe this when I saw it last night and needed time to process it. The initial thought, like most, was thinking Shams got hacked and then it ended up being true. Probably the craziest trade I've ever seen and been old enough to remember in any sport. Wow.

I've seen all the talk of Luka being out of shape, possible relationship issues with the Mavs, upcoming contract, etc but none of it makes sense. If you feel you have to move him, how is this the trade you make? You don't start a bidding war? The answer might be no but you don't give OKC a call about Chet and all of those picks they have? Mobley on the Cavs? If you specifically want a big man to win now and not one of the younger guys, at least give the Bucks a call about Giannis? The reporting suggests they specifically targeted the Lakers and AD and sent the trade in. They didn't even get all of the Lakers available first round picks! Unbelievable.

Great trade for the Lakers. Absolute no-brainer. They're going nowhere with this current team but now they're set up for the next decade. It was always, "who is going to be the next guy after LeBron and AD?" They always get that guy eventually but in the present it was a big question mark. Well, they got a 25 year old franchise player, who also happens to be a top five NBA player.
Yeah, asinine GMing from Dallas' management.

If you are trading Doncic, you might as well trade him for the biggest futures package possible and embrace the tank, then ship Kyrie to the highest bidder, too.

Anthony Davis in his athletic prime couldn't get New Orleans past the 1st round. Now at 32 he's expected to get Dallas a championship being "the guy"? I don't know what the Mavs are thinking here.

This might also be great for the Lakers. Stylistic fit aside, this can take an absurd amount of pressure off LeBron offensively IF he relents and allows the clearly superior offensive player to take the lead. Time will tell if he does.

Lebron and Luka both need the ball to be effective, this won't work but I get that Luka is really Lebron's replacement long term for the franchise.

But man, nobody on the Lakers starting 5 can play a lick of defense

But I mean, Luka was fat and didn't play defense last year too, and he dragged them to the finals. The year after the other team with a fat Slav who doesn't play defense won it all.

Baffling. Something is awry. The long term conditioning also doesn't make any sense when you're getting Anthony Day-to-Davis back.

I'm not one to buy into conspiracies, but man is it funny this deal comes out of nowhere, to the most recognizable team in the league with talks of ratings being down.

Like you mean to tell me the Mavs front office, knowing full well the absolute bidding war they could start by shopping around by all accounts, a transcendent/generational talent called one team and went "yeah okay sure." Like what?

The entire league would have opened their respective vaults to get a deal done. Imagine a team like OKC with their war chest of picks or somebody like that.

I'm not a big conspiracy guy but something does seem fishy.

That said, I don't know why the NBA would want to do this to one of the best owners in the NBA. It doesn't make sense, even if he sold a majority stake.

The thing that gets me is the lack of suitors or lack of a bidding war.

Imagine the god damn haul you could get if you tried. Teams would trade their entire franchise for this guy. Instead, the best you can do is land an aging star?

The only explanation I've got is if it gets leaked that the Mavs are shopping Doncic, he might want to control where he goes which could limit the return. We know NBA stars hold all the power over GMs.

They must genuinely believe Anthony Davis is the best return.

From what we're hearing, Dallas approached the Lakers with the offer, seems like AD is the guy they wanted.

Another thing to keep in mind AD is a Klutch client. It seems they pulled this off without Rich Paul and Bron knowing because this would have leaked for sure.
