Trade: [DAL/LAL/UTAH] Luka Doncic is a Laker, Anthony Davis is a Maverick and many other pieces

Luka is a generational talent and 7 years younger, no brainer trade for LA imo and I'm a big AD fan. They have their post-LeBron superstar now and will build around him.

Speaking of LeBron, curious to see what happens next. Lakers could still make some noise this year if they trade for a decent big. Or maybe they'd rather trade him and start their next chapter now. He has a NMC but he'd probably be willing to waive it if they promise to send him to a contender. Cavs farewell tour maybe? Next few days should be interesting.

The Warriors chatter will grow since LeBron hasn't been quiet about playing with Steph over the years

This is like basketballs version of the JFK assassination - "where were you when..."

I actually thought Shams was hacked when I first saw it. It makes zero sense for Dallas. Coup of the decade by Pelinka.

Any deal will need to involve Bronny going with him, but I doubt the Lakers trade him. He still brings in a. ton of $$$ and unless he asks to be dealt, you keep him.

i hope this puts to rest any "lebron runs the lakers FO" BS. he hasn't had any power in that department since the westbrick debacle and there is zero chance he would have even considered moving AD

this move was made 100% with the lakers future in mind and lebron could not care less about that

I know they're close friends but even Bron would know how good of a deal this is for the Lakers so I could see where he puts that ahead of his friendship.

Honestly it has to be some kind of collusion. It's impossible they didn't want any picks or any chance to make the team better. Like I actually expect lawsuits.

Otherwise it is simply the worst trade in all of sports history.

Ironically it was Mark Cuban who bitched and complained about the CP3 to Lakers trade and made Stern veto it. So would be funny if another owner did the same now (don't think Silver would veto it tho, he has no balls and lets the inmates run the asylum)

What would be the NHL comparable for this...Makar for Kucherov maybe? Makar for Barkov? Jack Hughes for Zach Werenski?

Luka is a top 5 player in the game with unreal physical tools and lots of technical finesse and is all offense. His comp is Draisaitl/MacKinnon.

Davis is an older, injury prone, Top 15 player who is elite defensively and offensively. He’s a 4, so he kind of loses trade value since he needs to play with both a true guard and a true center to max his value. For that positional limitation, let’s say he’s a damn.

Factoring in age, I’ll say it’s like Draisaitl for Hedman.

Draisaitl for Hedman
Not bad. My only quibble is for the comparison to really work, there has to be a guy in his mid 20's in the trade.
Pretty much the Joe Thornton to SJ trade
No, not even close aside from shock value. That was a superstar in his prime for 2 good players and a role player.
Quinn Hughes for Nico Hischier comes to mind
I think Anthony Davis is a more consequential player than Hischier though. It's also 2 guys the same age in this one.

This would only make a modicum of "sense" if Cuban had given up control of basketball ops when he sold the majority to the Adelsons. I.e new ownership is clueless and intervenes.... but nope Cuban still calls the shots and actually approved this. I dont even think the NPC GMs in 2K would've said yes (on the Mavs side).

& from what I understand, the Mavs called the Lakers looking to make the trade. They didn't learn with Porzingis that oft injured big men are not the answer? At least there they gave up a lot less than a top 5 player who literally lead them to the finals last season.

Always knew there is something not right with Cuban

Couldn't believe this when I saw it last night and needed time to process it. The initial thought, like most, was thinking Shams got hacked and then it ended up being true. Probably the craziest trade I've ever seen and been old enough to remember in any sport. Wow.

I've seen all the talk of Luka being out of shape, possible relationship issues with the Mavs, upcoming contract, etc but none of it makes sense. If you feel you have to move him, how is this the trade you make? You don't start a bidding war? The answer might be no but you don't give OKC a call about Chet and all of those picks they have? Mobley on the Cavs? If you specifically want a big man to win now and not one of the younger guys, at least give the Bucks a call about Giannis? The reporting suggests they specifically targeted the Lakers and AD and sent the trade in. They didn't even get all of the Lakers available first round picks! Unbelievable.

Great trade for the Lakers. Absolute no-brainer. They're going nowhere with this current team but now they're set up for the next decade. It was always, "who is going to be the next guy after LeBron and AD?" They always get that guy eventually but in the present it was a big question mark. Well, they got a 25 year old franchise player, who also happens to be a top five NBA player.
