11.75M is basically the same as Panarin signed decades ago

Fact is Rantanen left millions on the table, he was willing to take similar contract in Colorado but Colorado never got there, leaving millions on the table so you can’t say he was after the most money

Toronto offered him more, Carolina offered him more. If he was playing hardball he wouldn’t be signed today and he wouldn’t be signed for less than market value

But to use Panarins contract against Rantanen is just damm weak, it has nothing to do with today

You are mixing up negotiations and playing hardball

You’re doing cannonballs at the shallow end of the pool with this.

im pretty sure someone would have easily paid him 14+ in FA, taking 12m to play for a team that will be contending for many years, even more years than colorado says he left money on the table to play for a contending team.

No

He valued fit over money the most, as he said 6 weeks ago he was willing to leave money on the table to stay. He took less money to go to Dallas than what other teams gave him

You people were determined Rantanen wants 14M and nothing else will do, he’ll go to the highest bidder

He didn’t and now the goal posts move again just to be able to …t on a player

He had multiple teams offering him more money than Dallas, multiple contending teams so stop with the bs of it all being about money
never said it was only about money. my point is that his numbers clearly changed from when he last talked to colorado.

Or maybe he never knew they were at the final hour and it’s either trade or sign monent?

They were 6 weeks away from trade deadline and 6 months away from July. These players never get traded where Mikko got traded. He said he was willing to leave money on the table and the guess was 12.5M will get it done in the end. He never got the chance to prove it with how far away he got traded

& with based on how the trade deadline went I have no doubts 12.5M would have gotten it done. He left money on the table and valued the fit the most

if he truly wanted to stay in colorado it sounds like he and his agent played hardball and it backfired. avs took them at their word and moved on. looks like mikko became more flexible with his numbers.

He was willing to leave money on the table to stay there….

It’s not his fault Colorado asked him to leave a massive amount
Looking back the avs deal was competitive only 250k short of what he finally got. There was a feeling in Colorado the number was gonna be 12.5. When Colorado traded him he was ASKING 14million and wasn’t budging. You really shouldn’t comment on things you don’t know.your Finnish slip is showing

This is like a more good faith version of Hoffman for Boedker.

Carolina arguably got a bigger return than Colorado, and sent Rantanen to a division rival.
Colorado got Necas who is 1 points behind rantenen? A good 4c a2nd rounder and. 4th, the one second rounder got them a dman.all to make a run this year which was important to this core.Carolina got Stallonen who knows how he’ll end up,and two lottery tickets. It potentially handcuffed any sort of run this year. Colorado did just fine here.

You have absolutely no facts on Rants being at 14M in january, zero, nada. All we heard were how people were guessing he was looking at Drai money or starting his ask at Drai money. We have zero facts on him being at 14M in january

You fail where you say finally got. He got bigger deals than the Dallas deal but he valued fit+ chance at winning over the most amount

Give me a break with the ”had to settle” bs

Necas was a great return for an unsigned Rantanen, but the reality is that Necas without an extension and only 1 more year of term and the other pieces does not get what Dallas got from Rantanen.

I agree that the trade was a huge distraction for Carolina. But they did profit from it. They had trouble or did not want to go long term with Necas but he summer, and apparently even listened on trades for him but opted to keep him. To end up with this return for Necas, a 2nd, and a roster player is a massive win.

You do understand what context is right? You throw up in air quotes something I did not say. It’s fairly amusing you can assume he got bigger offers (not deals by the way.) you have zero proof of this much like my post about the 14 million comment. Can’t have it both ways chief. We’re all operating on context/reading between the lines. Try again

Colorado is clearly in the win now mode and to get Necas at 6.5 is worth its weight in gold to any team trying for the cup. Especially since the player they traded for only has 1 more point

Colorado had a lot of holes and to be honest CMAC filled them wonderfully. Albeit in a strong sellers market they probably paid more then you’d see in other years.

Carolina has some pretty big chips in the offseason to make some moves to get them where they wanna be

Seems like Canes' owner's main goal is to create a strong, consistent business rather than do what it takes to win a Cup.

Other teams that were arguably better than Carolina to begin with loaded up and Carolina does the opposite.

Good luck with that
You can't win the cup with Rantanen as your main guy, He needs to be carried. Rantanen doesn't have the work ethic to fit in Carolina either. 2+4=6 points in 13 games is Rantanen when he needs to stand on his own legs! Rantanen is not a complete player like Aho.

He's a skilled player but he sometimes reminds me of Laine with his reliance on skill instead of moving his feet. I think Necas is actually the better player of the two (just slightly).

Colorado won a cup with Mikko. Although you are right Mikko needs to get engaged again , great great player when he’s firing on all cylinders

Hilarious. Strongly, strongly disagree.
It’s a lot more than the rumored packages Carolina was being offered for Necas in the summer as an RFA. And that was when you could try to lock down Necas long-term immediately rather than having to wait and see if he would sign in 6 months like Colorado has to.

Young top 6 forward and 2 1sts and 2 3rds. No one was offering that for Necas.

Go back to the Hronek trade rumors and most comments were Carolina would have to add to Necas to get Hronek from Vancouver.

Whatever you have to tell yourself to not completely hate what you got from Dallas I guess

The avs pro scouts are really really underrated, I don’t know how many times they have picked up players to only have them fit really well. It’s been a really big boon to their putrid amateur scouting. His value today is arguably a lot more than it was last year.

You have to be pretty narrowminded to say that, they made the best of the situation and got a insane return for someone like Necas and will be able to upgrade the team in the offseason. The initial trade for Rantanen was good but didnt work out, they ended up recieving a better return for Rantanen than Colorado did in my opinion.
edit: but the real winner will be Dallas on this one getting the best player involved.

They absolutely did not receive the better return. In fact, they flushed their season down the toilet by accepting futures.

I would be calling for our GM to be fired if he would prefer that package over Necas + Drury + picks lol

Yes, their team got weaker by a little now, it would not have been the case if Rantanen had signed, but in the end, they got alot better package than they gave away. Its not like they would have had a chance for the cup this year anyways too many missing pieces.

Rantanen is what he is. He won’t carry play on his own but he’s an elite finisher. Give him the puck in the right places and he’m Finnish them.
