Close this joke of an advantage already… or put Florida, Tampa, Dallas, Vegas, Seattle and Nashville all in the same division.

LTIR?

Not opposed. It's clearly being abused at this point when the teams have enough plausible deniability, and they can get the player on board, it's a huge competitive misadvantage.

It’s an advantage lol. Trying to argue it’s not is foolish. It’s not an advantage that’s going to be fixed and it’s apart of life.

The problem is the cap being so restrictive that it’s even a discussion.

The Canes have almost $50M in cap space this offseason with no major RFAs. This proposed trade has nothing to do with Carolina's ability to pay.

Exactly. I see Carolina as a defensive grind it out kind of team and Mikko is a skill type of player. It doesn't fit and it's no surprise (regardless of limited games played) he hasn't performed well there.
Has he done bad? I haven't watched, but in advanced stats he looks to be doing pretty great but unlucky

The Canes blow up their team. Crazy I thought they would go for it this season.
They went out of the norm modus operandi in acquiring Rantanen and completely struck out. I don't think they are going to "blow up their team" but they are definitely going to feel this one.

Borderline fireable offense by Tulsky and how he's handled all of this.
I feel like most other teams would have just got nothing for Rants. I actually prefer his approach. I do think Necas should have been in a separate deal if they weren’t sure rantanen would sign. But necas and Carolina were already heading towards a divorce regardless.

They didn't go against their norm at all. There were no first round picks and very little in the way of proven futures that were squandered in the Guentzel or Rantanen trades. Rantanen was a swing in the dark because Necas was highly rumored to have wanted to sign elsewhere in two seasons.

Never said anything about that. All I said was the fact taxes is a discussion in the NHL and not the NFL or NBA is because the salary cap is extremely restrictive so advantages like no tax states get talked about.

Going for an attempted home run in a trade like that for Rantanen is very our of the norm for how Carolina usually operates. They are known for being far more shrewd with the cap and not gambling on a player who is going to command 13+ million

They were willing to fork that kind of cash because Carolina knew that the cap was going to explode and are sitting on $50M in empty space after this season. Changing cap environments lead to changing strategies when it comes to looking for top-end talent. This proposed trade has nothing to do with Carolina's unwillingness to pay the goodies.
