I’m not even going to fight that, if jiricek was an issue then getting rid of him is a positive. But that doesn’t mean Hunt is going to be some positive addition.
Also doesn’t mean he’s not but everyone wants to write him off because he’s not some well known high draft pick.

No, I'm writing him off because he's 22 and he hasn't shown a damn thing to indicate he'll be anything more than a disposable dime-a-dozen bottom pairing guy at best, of the exact same type that Waddell spent his opening months here in the organization literally giving away for free.

It was Vogelhuber who said that we shouldn't begin to start judging Dmen until they've played about 300ish pro games when he was talking about Jiricek this off-season. The same goes for Hunt, who has about 130ish pro games? He's going to be slotting into one of the best teams in the AHL on a loaded blueline. Let's give him some time in the system before we jump to conclusions about a 22 year old kid.

I think you are being too harsh. If you listen to that Wild prospect podcast they said he was by far Iowa's best D. I don't think it should be a knock on him either that he couldn't stick with Minnesota this season as they are the 2nd best team in the NHL. Seems unfair that he's automatically Jordan Harris - none of us have ever watched Hunt play

They also had him ranked 8th in their system that is consensus top 5. That's nothing to sneeze at.

Didn't take that long to come up with conclusions on any of Berni, Blankenburg, Bean, or Bjork.

The Iowa Wild were the third worst team in the AHL last season. They're not doing much better this season either. Saying he was the best on that team doesn't exactly constitute a ringing endorsement on its own.

It's also minor league hockey. Players come and go all the time. It's about development and not necessarily winning.

Like I said, none of us have ever watched him play. That argument is like saying Werenski actually isn't good because the CBJ haven't been good. But we watch Werenski and know he's good. Those guys actually watch Iowa and say Hunt is good

I distinctly remember you saying he was "the best on that team", not that he was actually good, or good enough to amount to anything in the NHL beyond bottom-pairing spot duty. Did they in fact characterize him differently than reported?

Like I said, the Wild are one of the best teams in the NHL so it's not exactly easy for a young prospect to stick.

I'd encourage you to listen to what they said because they gave a great breakdown of his game. Right now I feel like this is what I'm talking to:

All of the Wilds best prospects last year are in Europe, college or CHL(and really only added Ohgren to this year's squad).

Hunt is going to be an NHLer, I have zero doubt about that. His game reminds me a lot of Carson Soucy who Dean/the Wild also developed. He's a victim of his waiver exemption right now. He probably deserves to be in the Wild over Merril and Chisholm(others may disagree there).

As a Wild fan, I'm more confident he'll have a long NHL career than Jiricek, because D with poor skating don't tend to last long in the NHL.

I'm aware that none of the notables outside of Wallstedt are on the AHL team.

The simple truth is that nobody can tell me how or why he's any different than the other guys we casually discarded other than "but it's different this time." I'm sick of hearing about gambling tokens because they might as well be Losses Not Yet Realized at this point.
