Expect to hear this name rising up lists over the next few months. Tyson Hinds, a 6'3 defenseman, was traded to Rimouski in January after receiving limited opportunity with Shawinigan. Since being dealt, he has 3-5-8 in 8 games with his new team and was named QMJHL Defenseman of the Month.

"This is a player who I have had an eye on since last season; big frame, good speed and great defensive game... Now given big minutes, he has been a REAL dominant player so far on his new team. I think this is just the beginning for Hinds."

Good skater, good stick, felt he was good 1v1 and in the corners. His shot is meh but he’s more than capable of moving the puck. He’s a smart player, could be more physical.

he’s improved a ton since bantam, let’s see what comes with more ice time.

Another 1+ 1 for Hinds today and he now has 14 pts in 13 gp with Rimouski so far. He seems to be developing an offensive game which is good to see. If he keeps up the production he will definitely be a big riser on draft lists .

Tyson has progressed very well and very consistently since being drafted. Gets rewarded by making team Canada for the WJC. Ducks scouts were definitely ahead of the crowd on this defenseman once again.

Worth noting that the Ducks didn't just draft him, but traded their third the following year to get the pick to make sure they could take him - knowing they were almost surely giving up the higher pick in the end.

Stands to reason that they were surprised that Pastujov landed to them in that third round, but were otherwise intent on taking Hinds. They made sure they didn't miss out on this kid and it's indeed looking like the Ducks amateur scouts know what they are doing when it comes to young defensemen.

We all knew there must be something if we like a defenseman prospect THAT much (we basically never trade up)

Steady development, can't wait to see him in WJC. He was really good in the prospect tournament. Big, fast, and looks like has some smarts as well.

PS
My French is horrible, can anyone give me a summary?

- He thinks he has progressed very well since being drafted.
- Reporter asks him about his offensive game at the camp and he agrees he did well but he starts talking about his defensive game and he is happy about his performance.
- Doesn't mind playing on the left or the right side (has played the right side at the camp that day).
- Has an english name but is perfectly bilingual and french is his primary language (don't know if you care or not lol).
- Describes his game as being good defensively, good first pass, good skating, can contribute offensively but repeats his defensive qualities are what we're going to see at the camp and the tournament.

Seeing him live every week, I confirm this.

I'd say that his hockey IQ is his biggest asset. Hinds does not "stand out" when you casually watch a game, but if you know what you are watching, he becomes your favorite player pretty quickly.

In Sherbrooke, the ticket seller is Joshua Roy (and Gauthier to a lesser extent), but, to me, the cornerstone of the team is Hinds.

- Very smooth skater
- Smart and poised with the puck
- GREAT defensive positioning
- Knows when to jump in the play
- Does not make stupid "junior" plays

He produces at a PPG clip... playing on the second PP unit (1st unit gets like 80% of the PP time - Roy, Gauthier, Huckins, Spacek and Gill).

To me, he is a very safe prospect. Might not become a star if the offense does not translate to the next level, but he should, at the very worst, become a solid stay-at-home defenseman.

Oh... and can a mod change the title, Hinds plays for Sherbrooke ;)

Martin Madden and the Ducks scouting staff adding Zellweger, Hinds, Luneau, Thrun, LaCombe, Moore and Warren all outside of the 1st round in only 4 years.
