Probably the USA’s best player at the youth Olympics. this player is 6’3 already and shows excellent offensive and defensive promise. Is a lock for the NTDP next season and should be the top American defender in his age group moving forward. Exiting player, not sure how there wasn’t a thread.

He was not their best player at the YOG. He likely has the most upside out of the defenseman on the YOG team, though.

I like his game a lot. Has the size, skating, and a good enough puck game. Does not take many offensive risks. You hope that develops, but even if not he should still be able to be a good defensive defenseman.

Probably a lock for the NTDP next year.

He reminds me of Bode Wilde, which is going to sound terrible, but people forget that Wilde was a very good prospect at this age and simply didn't pan out.

Not all bust like that. Schairer has a very high ceiling. I could see him becoming a top 5-10 pick, but right now he makes a lot of mistakes trying to do too much. There are shifts where he forgets he's supposed to be aligned at the back of the ice and not the front. Also tries to stickhandle through players or make risky passes too often.

But the tools are there for an NHL 1D. Elite level skater, has high level skill, and does some good things defensively. All this for a 6'2 188 right shot. He can dominate some shifts.

I think he ends up a first rounder next year due to potential, but if he can start ironing out some of the mistakes then he can be the first American off the board in 2026.

Has looked pretty good to me as the season has went on. He's surpassed Berchild and Hurlbert without a doubt for likely first pick from the 17's for 2026. He has a lot more of a projectable game to the NHL than they do. Kemps may actually end up his biggest competition. I think he's quite likely to go in the first half of the first round for 2026. He has some crazy shifts where he rushes the puck through many players using skill and skating, but his defensive game and puck management has made a lot of strides. He's become as reliable defensively as any defenseman on the team (not a big ask because it's a meh defensive group, but still a little competition from like Kemps and Barnett), easily has the most offensive potential (think he's definitely a PP guy if he hypothetically makes the NHL, but likely PP2), and skates great for a pretty big defenseman already (6'2 188). Dude is good. Hope we see him promoted for the U18 Worlds next month.

Petes just drafted him… and doesn’t look like he made the USNTDP roster. I know it’s probably a crazy long shot but is there a chance he comes to the OHL?

He’s on the NTDP.

He’s no more likely than the average NTDP player to jump to the OHL. Probably less because he’s arguably the best player for his age group, so there aren’t any playing time issues.

Well looks like my hour long dream is over!😂
Yeah, he plays for the U17 team. I don’t know if you looked at the U18 or what. He’s been very good this season. I thought he had a chance to get promoted to the U18’s as the season went on and for Worlds, but they chose 2007 born players (Reid, Fiddler, Baldwin) instead for some of those spots. Kind of just unlucky for him that there were a lot of interesting right shot defensemen a year older than him. It’s always possible he jumps to OHL, but it would devastate a weak 2008 defense. He’s by far their best.
