Drafted 1st overall in the QMJHL entry draft by Saint John. Just finished the pre-season with 1G, 2A and 9 shots in 3 games.

Seems to be an excellent skater and puck handler but seems to play high in his own zone and pinch a little often, but I haven't had the opportunity to see much of him yet to be fair. If anyone has caught a Saint John pre-season game, how did he look?

I caught his first pre season game, didn't look great but you could see the potential was there. Excellent skater with great hands, made some turnovers but that is to be expected.

I will be following him a lot the next few seasons.

Your assessment is bang on - this is exactly how he has always played and the defensive part of his game is a work in progress for sure, but its hard to deny the potential to be great with Elite skating and puck-handling. A couple of months in will show if he is maturing and developing.

Was compared by a hockey nova scotia scout to Kris Letang, said Green was actually better at 15/16 years old.

lol well that was not hard, Letang at 15/16 was on the smaller side, he was good but not amazing either...think that scout better look back at his scouting notes. I saw Letang a lot back in his rookie years at the U17s in St John's NFLD and the regular season.

I do agree the way he plays is like Kris Letang, Green is better than Letang was at that age because Letang was a late bloomer.

How's his defense, I've noticed he pinches quite often.

Defensively he's a work in progress. He himself said heading into the season his #1 priority was to improve his defense as his offense was already up to speed in the league.

Excellent skater with a great work ethic and tons of skill, he's going to figure it out in his own end.

Now that the season is over, I'm curious if anyone has any updates on this guy. I only saw him twice this year but he was definitely a guy who stood out for all the right reasons. Also, 36 points in 60 games is pretty impressive for a 16 year old defenseman, though I'm really wondering how his overall play has been throughout the course of the year.

Anyone want to make an educated guess on his potential?

Green through the year has improved tons in the defensive zone and his positioning while still adding great offense on the ice, he showed amazing improvment, his hands with the puck and skating are great and he has gotten stronger in the whole year, this guy is a major prospect for next year. The kid still pinchs a lot but IMO I hate when coaches try to make an exciting player into a defensive stonewall, the kid is amazing at offense from the back end and is developing his timing better and positioning.

Watched him a bunch of games down the stretch while observing Sea Dogs draft eligibles. Green really stood out in pretty much every game I saw. I think even in this years draft he could've been taken fairly high. Give him another year and he's going to be a top prospect. Going into the year he seemed to be known for his offensive game but what really surprised me was how solid he was in his own end. I think he is a top15 selection at this point. I really like him and Dubois from the Q.

Still a top 60 selection?

I don't put much stock into McKeen's draft rankings but they have him #29 on their most recent list, so he might be on the rise. As a right-handed defenseman he has value and might get picked over some of the lefties that are on a similar level to him. I'm a fan of him and would most definitely take him in the top60.

smart guy, i have him as a late 1st aswell (definitely a sleeper pick). lets not tell anyone about him tho ;)

As a long distance Sea Dog fan, I will admit that I haven't seen much of him, but the games I did watch he turned the puck over too much for my liking. He and Zboril both struggled in many of the games I watched.

That said, he is an exceptional skater, has good offence, and is a RHD. I wouldn't mind the Leafs taking him in the mid-late 2nd if he is available. (Leafs move up if need be).

I haven't seen him but his point totals haven't really increased. Isn't he labelled as an offensive dman ?

yes a huge portion of his points are at ES, he has to work hard for them (hes not gifted free PP pts like alot of other draft eligible dmen).

he has to play behind alot of stud dmen who are older than him, he'll break out next season once he gets a bigger role on the team.

He will still be at best the #3 D in Saint John next year.
