Zegras when healthy might be a good target here. Fans will not want more picks, our owner/gm will trade them for 4th liners.

We have some good pseudo GM's here who will have some ideas.

Fair enough, what if we made the first round pick this year unprotected ?just saw some rumors about you guys maybe shopping power? Thought that a young dman going back could’ve been interesting.

Ducks fan here. I love cozens. Would the sabres trade him for 1st 2025( lottery protected turns into unprotected 1st 26 ) +zellwegger/helleson+ sam colagenlo. Maybe sabres have to add a 3rd
Eh, we need to get veterans that know how to win, and not get younger.

We have tons of young players in the system, we don't need more.

No. No we would not.
Well now hold on skeeter ...

I'd take the first, Helleson and Luneau/Gaucher. That first can be moved for a nice piece to help today, Helleson would be a fun partner for Power and Luneau/Gaucher would be a nice get to shore up the backend or a defensive, physical, net front center

First of all I think it's easier said than done, and secondly not with our GM who loves his first round picks too much and doesn't trade them even when we had three. Hellesson could be interesting, but I'd like to get McTavish or Zegras return in a deal like this. McTavish/Zegras + Helleson for Cozens+ maybe for me.

It depends. Right now the preference would be a hockey trade, where Cozens is a piece that is moved in a larger trade that sees the Sabres get the better player. This has always been the premise of a Pettersson trade with Vancouver. Such a trade might not be realistic though.

I would ask fans to remember that Cozens has a $7.1 million cap hit for 5 more seasons. If what we have seen from Cozens the past season and 1/2 is closer to what he is than 30 goal Cozens from 2022-23, then getting rid of the cap hit might be worth it. The assets coming back then build the pool that can be used to acquire players to spend that cap space differently and, hopefully, more wisely.

So much hinges on what Cozens is as a player (I’m not sure) and how confident we are that our management team can evaluate Cozens’s upside (I have near zero confidence in Adams making a good trade). So, I guess my answer is no, but if a new GM made such a trade and then used assets and cap space to remake the roster…maybe.

Why would a rebuilding GM trade one of his three first round picks, that is his lifeline in a rebuild.

I don't know, but he kept saying he was willing to consider a trade first, every year. Unfortunately, Adams is incapable of anything worthwhile. In any case, I am not interested in a futures deal, only if it's not a big overpayment.

Buffalo has to stop being in the business of bleeding proven talent.

Buffalo has a year before Cozens buyout goes from 1/3rd to 2/3rds

McTavish is probably the only thing that interests me on the Ducks roster, off the top of my head.

As a team, the Sabres do not need to get any younger....even on the back end.
I think Anaheim's unprotected first would probably the Sabres best trade asset, and if not the best, certainly the least complicated to move. Subtract Cozens' cap hit and that's a deal I would jump one in the very improbable world where Anaheim would entertain such a trade.

We are talking about buying out contracts of guys you could still easily move with the cap about to skyrocket to save capspace the rat bastard who owns us has no intention of ever using anyways.
