If there's a PWHL Draft next year.. she goes 1st overall...

There will be a draft but it's not a prospect draft. Only those who declare are eligible. It's entirely possible she does declare but who knows. I'd assume whoever has the 1st pick would entice her to join the PWHL with a lot of money that may not be there in 3-5 years if she followed a traditional NCAA-Pro route. If she could bank 150k for a few years and then if shit hits the fan goes back to college if she wanted to (for a degree not to play) it might be worth it.

I think it'd be silly of her to give up a free education while playing great hockey. Her scholarship alone could be worth 150k. Then she can aim for pro hockey and see what she can earn.

If she makes 750k over 4 years in the PWHL its worth it. No guarantees the PWHL exists by the time shes done the NCAA, as shitty as that is. You never know.

Yeah, ultimately it's her choice and it's not like I'm all-knowing about the scene but I think it's an easy decision to go to school. The PWHL isn't a development league even a little bit, the youngest player is the 22-year-old Japanese player Shiga on Ottawa, then I think it's all college grads like Heise, a lot of whom did 5 years of school. Toronto picked a 35-year-old D second overall in the inaugural draft.

I wouldn't assume she's more advanced right now than the elite college players in a 2024 draft, like Sarah Fillier who was ranked #1 is six and a half years older than her. And it's a league where financial margins are probably going to be thin, and the pay scale is flat. The elite, national team level players have been able to make a living off of hockey - the pro league project is more about the next tier down, who can play them competitively.

She still has another year of U18 eligibility left as she's an '07 birth year. Biggest question is will Hockey Canada get their heads out of their asses and get her on the senior national team. Would have loved to see her at the Rivalry Series.

Which player makes 750k over 4 years in the PWHL? I think college is the first choice for girl without doubt.

A player in the previous league last season made $150k. Not insane to think a team could entice Chloe to go straight to the PWHL for $150k+ per year. They'd be essentially buying someone that could be the face of womens hockey for the next 15 years by doing so. There's no reason for her to go to the PWHL right away unless a team would be willing to fork over that kind of money. Doubt it happens but lots of people seem to think she could play in the PWHL right now and be very successful.

I think I read somewhere that PWHL players make between 35K and 80K a year. But first, the PWHL needs to exist for years to give confidence to young players, not become the WHPL after three years or become the WPHL after six years. Sigh

If the PWHL doesn’t exist in 4 years, that’s another reason to go to college and get a degree instead. If the PWHL ends up developing well and paying players more, she’ll still be able to jump in and be the highest-paid player in the league.

She can get a degree afterwards with all the money she made in the PWHL if she wants. That's my point. The opportunity to make a lot of money from hockey may not be there in 5 years. Not sure why this is so hard to comprehend for people in here. I doubt she does what I'm suggesting but if the option presents herself it does make sense.

There is no big money in the PWHL. It's not a gold rush. They had a good launch, I like the product, I've been watching it every once in a while even ahead of my NHL team because it's an 82 game slog and they won't miss me, but they have a pay scale of $35,000 to $80,000. That is blue collar money. If she was Zoe Primerano, she never learned how to skate, never went to college but she had the skills to manage a local fast-casual restaurant at a level comparable to Chloe Primerano the hockey player, she would clear that no problem.

If she wanted to go pro right away I think the "iron sharpens iron," development, reps against top players argument is stronger, but I would be surprised. But it would still be fun!

I don't know why people are replying to me without reading what I am writing. I am clearly stating that IF a team was willing to offer her a lot of money then she could consider it and it may be worthwhile.

Also the bolded about the 35k-80k payscale is incorrect. 35k is the minimum, 55k is the required average, and you have to have 6 players per team making a minimum of 80k. These 3 numbers all will rise 3% per season as well. As far as I can tell while reading the CBA there is no maximum. Which is why I am suggesting this as a possibility. If I'm wrong about the maximum then please let me know as I can find it in the CBA.

This article has this quote:

"The average salary in the PWHL is $55,000. The minimum sits at $35,000 with at least six players on each team making more than $80,000. The maximum salary in the league has not been revealed, but it is believed to be somewhere around $120,000."

Unsure if that means max allowed or the max salary signed this season.

I think a lot of posters at the fry station now have bigger aspirations after reading this.

Yeah that's the comparison I've had in my mind as well. She's unbelievably dynamic from the backend, has chance to be the Bobby Orr of women's hockey.
