Confirmed with Link: D - Alexander Nikishin signs 2 year ELC

That's not his North American agent (Quartexx Hockey- Ryan Barnes) but rather a RU agent. I wonder if SKA is exerting pressure and using this guy as a spokesperson versus Nikishin's unhappiness.
I'm pretty sure this particular guy would rather want Nikishin to sign in KHL for him to get his cut of the contract.

Option, not contract
So, poor wording like I had suggested? Could you please use full sentences and maybe that will stop whatever circular conversation we're having? Alexander Nikishin can ONLY sign a contract that allows him to be paid different salaries at the NHL or AHL level, he cannot add any sort of clause that would prevent his demotion to the AHL in his ELC. He could have a European assignment clause added but in legal terms whether that could be considered an option I do not know, it would not be a two-way option either way. It would be him just leaving the club to play elsewhere if he exercises that clause.

If Nikishin signs an NHL ELC he cannot play in the AHL playoffs this year

The only way he could do that is by signing an AHL PTO

So by not signing the NHL ELC Nikishin/the Canes are keeping that option available

Okay, so reading between the lines, it's definitely a playtime thing. He NEEDS to play in Game 4 in that case.
Honestly, I would play him tonight. Let him get a game in and if it doesn't work, use that as an excuse as to why he needs more training and go back to what has worked all along.

We lose tonight, I don't see Brindy playing him Game 4, and then you're just making a bad situation worse.

Never mind, you will figure it out eventually …

I don't think Brindamour would change the lineup at the last minute like that. Maybe if one of the defensemen were struggling, but honestly, I can't think of a defenseman that's been bad thus far. We're going to see them more exposed on the road, so it'll be easier to justify a change in Game 4

Yeah pretty unlikely to see him tonight. If we win though a game 4 on the road up 3-0 makes a ton of sense to debut him. Lose that one with Nikishin struggling at all you go back to the regular lineup to close it out in 5 at home. Not much risk there. A loss tonight and I’d still be all for giving him game 4 but then there is a tad more risk.

On the other hand, if you internally fully believe Nikishin is your future superstar and he has representation putting out rumors that he's so unhappy about the situation he's tempted to demand a trade, you f***ing play him. We didn't go through all this hassle to get him here, all these years of waiting for him to come over, making him completely untouchable in trades, just for us to f*** it up at the finish line because we weren't willing to give him 3rd line defensive minutes in a playoff series that we are likely going to win walking away. I don't care how good the likes of Ghost and Orlov have been (Orlov has not been good, btw), if the superstar wants to play, let him play

This is the playoffs. You don't just give things a whirl. You play every game solely with the goal of winning.

If they decide playing Nikishin gives them a better chance to win, stick him in. Same with Pyotr.

But this isn't tee ball, where everybody has to get an at bat. Win first. Nothing else matters. If someone is sad they aren't getting playing time, suck it up and stay ready.

If Nikishin (not this goofy agent) demanded a trade because he didn't immediately get playing time, then trade him. If he's as good as people say he is, he'll get a huge return in whatever form you want.

But this just sounds like some idiot agent being a dramatic.

Id like to see Nikishin play tonight, however we all know that is not happening. Not at this hour. We'd know. Also, I doubt rod plays him unless were up 3-0 or facing elimination down by more than 2 games.

Also important to note that we really have all the leverage here. Not that we should use it but we do have it. Going back to Russia just flat out is not a realistic threat. We can sit on his NHL rights forever. He could suck it up and play for us until reaching UFA and leave then which would suck for us but it’s not going to come anywhere near that point. Not getting him in these playoffs would be frustrating for him (and a mistake for us IMO) but really not a big deal in the long run. We pretty much know for a fact he’s a huge part of our plans going forward and there is a top 4 spot with his name on it basically guaranteed for next season. That, $, winning organization, tons of Russians will all make him easily forget a rocky first month or 2 (which may be a flawed premise anyways…).
