Confirmed with Link: D - Alexander Nikishin signs 2 year ELC

The underlying realities of all of this Nikishin complexity is that our veterans are playing really good hockey right now. If the priority is to get Nikishin minutes on North American rules and ice, then holding off on the contract while he's getting playoff minutes for the Wolves isn't a bad idea at all.

It’s a funny and sensitive thing to be mad about. It’s just a fact that’s true or not. Not like she’s shitting on us or anything.
The Montreal was flaunting their new guy around and whilst they were withholding our new guy of his working visa, Kaplan had the audacity to go yelling around that we haven't even signed our guy yet!

The fact that she was 100 % correct all the time doesn't really come to it.

Contract not needed for an O1 visa
Agree…. But there were multiple media reports saying he was coming in on a P1, not an O1… and P1 does require a contract….. thus my post :)

O1 is more open ended so most go P1 to get it faster/easier. Given the timeline and rush to get him here it made sense when I saw reports of that being how they were trying to get him here..

So they did media availability with Tulsky and he confirms Caplan reporting…. Makes sense now how there hasn’t been more official stuff with him.

If he does play then it’s one contract with one set of bonuses…. If he doesn’t play in the playoffs, then it’s a different contract with very different bonuses…. Also, it’s a very different situation for him being rfa and getting the big contract asap if he has to play two full seasons on an e try level deal…. Intrigue being how much is his not playing n playoffs really Brindy not wanting to play him versus the team trying to get more years of control…. You know that’s where it is going next with the rumors and why they even had to have media availability for tulsky…. Dundon so cheap he trying to screw Nikishin out of burning his first year of the deal blah blah blah…..

The funny part is she also said we were thinking about trying to get him AHL games which I assumed would bring out the pitchforks, but when she had the audacity to be accurate about his contract the higher level crime was immediately prioritized.

honestly the one part of the whole thing that makes me go "wait... what?" is that if he is signed to the NHL contract he's ineligible for the AHL playoffs. So makes sense that we DON'T have him under contract right now from that standpoint and that standpoint alone. I didn't blow a gasket over it since there had to be some stupid CBA legaleize behind it, like always.

being the nerd I am, I’m curious how any benefits he is getting now are hand,ed under the CBA….. are they paying for a hotel or apartment for him while he waits around? Is that outside the CBA? Can they give him a stipend and not have it count or is that just a cost that comes out in the wash of HRR calcs……. They can’t give him his signing bonus until he actually signs… so curious about it all…. Are the agents fronting him or is he just relying on the guys to put him up etc. not at all a big deal in grand scheme but an interesting to me situation and how those kinds of minutia are handled…

Luckily in this case he should have some years' worth of KHL salary to finance his being. The CBA is kind of harsh about it, they really aren't allowed any shenanigans where the money would be moving from the team to him in other fashion than as the salary stated in the SPC.

In reality there are Canadian Tyres bigwigs present at the contract negotiations of any bigger name prospective Leafs player to talk about the sponsorship options while the actual NHL salary is discussed, buuuuut...

Exactly, and that’s why in particular when I hear Leafs fans (or Hab fans and depending on the player even Oiler fans) complain about tax disadvantages compared to Southern markets their argument is shallow.

I’d guess he’s probably staying with Svech or Orlov for now.
