Confirmed with Link: D - Alexander Nikishin signs 2 year ELC

I'd be 100% fine if we go full Jackson Chourio here work out an 8 year extension with only limited sample size, especially if we can get that done for something around Slavin money
That would be my main priority this offseason honestly. There is some risk but the reward is just so massive to have him locked up long term on what could be an absolute bargain if he becomes as good as we think he can.

Hey, glad for you guys after having dealt with all of the Rantanen garbage. Good luck except against my Avs.
I’ve moved on from the Rantanen mess but all along have continued to root for Necas in Colorado when it doesn’t impact the Canes. Hope you guys can beat Dallas and go far in the playoffs. Avs/Canes would be a hell of a Cup final series — although maybe more likely in 2-3 years (at least for Canes to make it)

But is the player willing? Again. Darnell Nurse.
Yeah that’s the question. If he is adamant saying “no interest I want to bet on myself” or wants the Kaprizov route of shorter term deal then not a whole lot we can do. But if he’s open to securing his bag now it makes a lot of sense for us to take that chance. If he’s legit our window is immediately wide open to be a top tier contender for 7-8 years

Still need at least 2 top 6 and a g

Yet you tolerate Svechhammer. Or whatever his name is now. Dude is way worse than me.

Drink.
Hey man we’re all family here. I don’t disagree with some you’re sparring with here on the negativity but still love having you post here — same with blue line bomber who I rarely see eye to eye with and svechhammer and whoever else. Svechhammer, all due respect is very Jekyll and Hyde, 1 day incredibly positive about everything next day sky is falling . There’s a place for everyone here. Except Habs and leafs fans, they can f*** off

Yeah of course my point is just that if Nikishin’s play is elite and worthy of like 12-14m and we have him for like 6-7 there is a ton of cap space there to go improve the team. We have no bad contracts right now and some great contracts already. Pipeline is great too even beyond Nikishin, for a perennial contender anyways. Work to do but Nikishin living up to the hype on a long term bargain contract sets us up incredibly well to do that work and have it pay off

In all seriousness getting him here will be huge. There was a time about 2 years ago I didn't think he'd come over. I'll be really happy when he's actually in the States but seeing the official report he's signed is exciting.

If he starts out in Chicago, so be it. At least he'd finally be in our system and getting acclimated to North American life and North American hockey.

@HisIceness can f*** off. That guy is a tool.

Damn i never knew there was a structure. I thought it could just be. "1m bonus for existing "
It can be if it is the performance bonus for a 35+ years old guy on a one year contract, but just like the ELC contracts as a whole, the rules for the performance bonuses for Entry-Level players are very tight.

Giving out schedule B bonuses is a novelty for the Canes though. I think Svech got his as is the wont for a 2OA draftee, but this is probably the first time the Canes had to entice a promising prospect to sign by throwing some potential money at him.

Not necessarily. He needs two years of professional experience to qualify for RFA status at the expiry of his ELC, and per the CBA:
For the purposes of this Section 10.2(a), a Player aged 18 or 19 earns a
year of professional experience by playing ten (10) or more NHL Games
in a given NHL Season, and a Player aged 20 or older (or who turns 20
between September 16 and December 31 of the year in which he signs his
first SPC) earns a year of professional experience by playing ten (10) or
more Professional Games under an SPC in a given League Year.

Should he play ten games in AHL or NHL, he will get a pro season out of 2024-25 and will be a full-fledged RFA in 2026 should he be still unsigned at that time.
