Confirmed with Link: D - Alexander Nikishin signs 2 year ELC

I like this.

It makes me believe that Rod is not only going to play him but perhaps even give him some big minutes.

Big responsibility for him, playoffs are an animal, but he's got to get his feet wet eventually and I think he's up for the challenge.

As Rod says, he knows Hockey. Go out there and f***ing kick ass and take names kid.

I don’t know where you got your stats, but Ghost has 18 points at even strength. Here are the stats for guys that could be out for Nikishin:

Ghost - 18:31 average ice time - 18 ES points, 27 PP points
Burns - 20:57 average ice time - 26 ES points, 3 PP points
Orlov - 20:00 average ice time- 27 ES points, 1 PP point
Chatfield - 18:53 average ice time - 17 ES points
Walker - 16:50 average ice time - 16 ES points

Ghost has the 3rd most PP points among defensemen in the league on a powerplay that has been very hot and cold throughout the year. I don’t know about everyone else, but to me, that tells me we need him in the lineup to have any shot at a functional PP for the playoffs. Especially when we look at the above stats and realize we have no one else that CAN contribute on the PP.

Clearly you gotta sit Jaccob Slavin, cause Nikishin is our new #1 LD.

The Wolves last regular season game is tomorrow night. I wonder if there's anything to be gleaned from the fact that they aren't having him play that one before the NHL playoffs start?

edit: I can think of several reasons not to do that, but it was an option if they aren't considering using him right away.

Hat tip to @chaz4hockey for posting this article in the other thread.

Carolina Hurricanes | $33,0000 | Jaaska $5K with 2 more games played, Nikishin $1.0375M for Conn Smythe
"The Carolina Hurricanes likely won’t feel much pain in their overage, which is just $33K due to games played bonuses Stankoven achieved after the trade. They could face another $5K if Jaaska plays 2 more games, and $1,037,500 if newcomer Nikishin wins the Conn Smythe."

The stuff about Stankoven doesn't make sense. He already had 59 games played in Dallas this season and had unlocked his bonus courtesy of that. I don't exactly now whether the roster bonus gets pro rated if the players plays for more than one team in a season or whether the bonus is due the next payday after unlocking the bonus (which would have been in the fall 2024), but he certainly had his games played bonus achieved well before the trade.

A bit of a statement to give Nikishin this bonus. It kind of makes sense though in the way that he wouldn't have been eligible for any regular season dependent bonuses anyway so it's useless to give him any of those.

He doesn't get that baked into the contract if we aren't planning on playing him big minutes in the playoffs.

Or he signed late in the season so his performance bonuses are limited and he was not eligible to sign a max ELC, so it was one of the only ways to give him more money overall. Like I said, the Canadiens did the same thing for Demidov.

A player the Habs are planning to play a lot in the playoffs. So, not the slam dunk counter argument for your side, eh?
