Jess Jones, 20, was working at D’Jais Bar & Grill on Ocean Avenue on Aug. 17, when she noticed that one of her tables left her no tip, the Asbury Park Press reported.

The bill came out to a total of $112.03 and instead of offering a generous gratuity, the tip line read “LOL†with “1 hour for food†written next to it.

That's unfortunate, but she should know better than to expect a tip from every customer.

If the service is bad, guess what? I'm not going to leave a tip either.

Not to assume she did not do this, but perhaps a notice that the kitchen is very busy and the food is a little delayed would have helped

tipping is ********.

i still do it.

but i feel bad about it.

also 1 hour wait for food is ridiculous although if it cost $112 then it's either a nice place or they had a big party so... shut up.

$112 for a table of 8 means they averaged $14 per person

the table was cheap as **** to begin with and like i said should have gone to mcdonald's

srsly, how do you average $14 per person? that is literally like a coke and a soup each

i call bs on the 1 hour wait also

i'd bet my bottom dollar the table was just cheap af and looked for any excuse they could to justify not tipping

servers generally have to tip the kitchen and mgmt out also, so even if the service is horrible, leave a few dollars, otherwise you are making your server pay out of their own pocket to serve you and if you are cool with that then **** off

Tbh, imagine the satisfaction of writing "LOL 1 hour for food" on the bill as you receive poor service from the server and the cooks in the kitchen. That has to be one of the greatest feelings in the world. It's that one moment where you have a chance to make everything right in the world after being served a grave injustice. Moreover, you leave the server with one of the saltiest feelings in the world. They can't respond, or make any reprisals like tampering with your food. The server has no choice but to be left in seething rage. "LOL 1 hour for food" and no tip is a satisfying spit at the face of all that is decadent and rotten about tipping in today's society. What a genius move.

Not necessarily. They probably just got a couple of pitchers and maybe some pub fare......which clearly took its' sweet time getting to the table.

Just because there were eight people there doesn't mean they all had to order a full meal.

Non tippers will run waiters and waitresses to death, and still find something to complain about.

Unless the server is an absolute jerk, at least give them something.

I have no clue why this became a news article?

Having said that - I don't know what the pre-tax amount of the bill was - but if you go by the after tax amount, for 8 people that's $14/head.

It sucks when serving staff get tips cut because of meal-delays - but unfortunately, you're not allowed to discount the bill itself.

While it's not the servers fault, if I waited an hour for food (and considering there was 8 of them and the bill was barely over 100 bucks it couldn't really have been THAT much food) I probably wouldn't tip either. That's outrageous.

A group of 8? The server should have been hustling to treat them the best. Maybe they would have stayed longer but were soured by the fact they waited an hour for food.

How many tables that size or larger was she waiting on? A smart server would have explained the kitchen is having problems and offered to complete something like an appetizer. Sure the bar takes a loss on the comp then, but wins on the group of 8 dropping 300-400 drinking and ordering food for a few hours.
