Current state of the Boards

I’m sure you’re right about all this, it’s really not my area of expertise. I just don’t know that I need HF to be a sports car. I’m really OK with it being a 1994 Camry with different colored doors. But then again, it’s not my money on the line.

The one thing that bothers me is the loss of archival threads.
I’d be willing to support with financial compensation if I know the site will be functional in high event moments, like trade deadline day, or the final of a four nations challenge for example. I just hate paying for things that don’t work when I really want them to work. That’s not exclusive to this website, or the internet for that matter. I wouldn’t even mind the occasional ad, along with my financial support, so long as things run smoothly.

That attitude right there is why you’re on waivers, since we’re out here in the open…whichever fanbase claims @missionAvs will also receive a signed puck from Joe Sakic and a liter of cola

...if the Avs give us Lehkonen back, the Habs'll take him...we have a ton of nutjobs already, what's one more... :thumbu:

Their data is public. There is definitely a good financial incentive to keep this site running. They are owned by Crave Media. And if you pull up the site numbers they have a really good reason to keep the site running. They just aren’t good at the business part of the business.

I don’t know if it’s against the rules to post their traffic but it is public. They have a looooot of traffic.
Traffic doesn't mean they're making money hand over fist. Twitter has "traffic". They lose money. In the same breath you're saying the ads are so weird and crappy - how much money is that gonna generate then?

Do people on HFboards even want it to be run "like a business"? Want to get charged and nickeled and dimed? People just want a community to talk hockey.

The natural next step for HFboards really is for it to just die and most of the traffic gets moved to reddit (ugh), like most forums/boards.

Should just be moved to Discord but that takes a lot of work.

I really dislike Discord as a platform for text-based discussions. It's good as a place for people to hang and react in real-time.

I like HFboards because you can discuss things on a deeper level and Discord really isn't suited for that. I would really dislike if it went that way.

I use both rather regularly. They each have their merits. You can definitely have much deeper discussions on HF (or message boards in general) because of how threads are organized (how threads are organized are why I don't participate in Reddit, but I do read it sometimes). Having a deeper discussion about something on Discord is very difficult, unless it's a server or channel with very little activity, otherwise your attempt at typing more than a few sentences at a time will get drowned out, or an interesting topic will come up when you're not there and be long gone a few hours later.

I mean there are few discords that are moderated as heavily as HF. But you can have tons of threads in Discord. I mean the board doesn't even work during the busiest times like TDL. I'd much rather have discord working 24/7.

This has probably been asked a million times but I had recently renewed my forum sponsorship thing but I no longer seem to have it. How do I get it back or are we just waiting on the servers to recover fully?

PS: I will NOT accept an answer from @forsbergavs32 as he treats me very poorly on HFAvs and has had me on forum waivers for like 3 years now.

Quick question — if you were to be traded to Carolina, would you be willing to sign there long term?

How much do you think it costs to run an operation like Twitter vs HFBoards? Traffic can generate a ton of money if done correctly. Businesses fight every day for traffic because that's what opens the door to profit. If you have a great business but dont know get any traffic then you have no business. They should run HfBoards like a business rather than a knock off mobile game that is littered with ads. They have premium memberships here, why not improve on that business model and offer your base something substantive so people feel inclined to pay for real additional access rather than "Oh my god dude the ads suck so bad, Im just gonna pay to get rid of it" business model.

Pay to join HFboards. Pay more if you want to post. Pay more if you want access to these subforums...

A pay-to-play model will result in a lot less discussion real quick.

Maybe that's good. I would not prefer it.

There's definitely proven avenues they can try.

like a billion dollars.
And HfBoards feels like its being ran by a hamster running on a wheel on its last leg.

Their net profit is pretty high considering the fact they dont really try to do anything to improve the site. Every user is money whether they're free or premium user. They can afford to do a lot more to this site.

For the record I'm not complaining about the ads or the boards really. They're free and I love them. Annoying things about them for sure but Ill take what we have over nothing.
That's the key reason they have much traffic as they do IMO. There is no competition.
