Current state of the Boards

Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m guessing 80% of the traffic on this board comes from regulars who have been here for a long time. Reddit is a very different place — in my personal opinion, it doesn’t offer anywhere near the quality of discourse. This place has lost some traffic over the years but the difference is mainly a decrease in drive-by shitposting.

I think like 90% of the traffic comes from unregistered guesses if not more. Unless you mean actual participation.

I view the hockey subreddit from time and time and it's really not that good. Between most of the people on there being super young (legit saw one persons ay they didn't know how bad the Griffin Reinhart trade was at the time cause they ere like 8 years old) and thus ignorant of hockey history and the general happy go luckiness of it I much prefer this place. Nobody on there wants to criticize other teams cause if you do you'll get a million downvotes, so you're stuck with people saying "omg your team is so likeable cheering for you guys!!!" instead of having an actual discussion like we have here.

For example due to the generally younger crowd, people are shocked when you list Gordie Howe as a top four player of all time. They simply cannot believe a guy who played 70 years ago can be compared to Gretzky and Lemieux.

The reddits are far less thoughtful and intelligent IMHO. Our team's subreddit seems mostly to be an upvote party with very little active discussion or disagreement, save a few posters. Say something slightly negative or challenging? Downvoted to oblivion. Also very little knowledge about the cap, the league, etc... Surface level shit.

This old Internet haven is holding on by its fingertips but I'll be extremely sad if it ever dies.

reddit is legit brainrot and memes

here I tend to notice the memes get removed or organized better

It’s a strange thought, but at this stage I’m pretty sure I keep up with the NHL because I’m highly engaged on HF, not the other way around.

Don’t get me wrong, I like hockey well enough. But the reactions and discussion on here are what make 95% of it relevant enough to hold my attention day-by-day. If I were just watching it like a TV show without coming on here to react/discuss/argue about the day’s news, I don’t think I’d make it through a 9 month season before drifting off to something else.

So there’s a decent chance I actually might stop following hockey day-to-day if HF shuts down. I’m definitely not going to go to Reddit or Twitter, which are good for finding content but impossible for having a meaningful discussion.

HF is really important to my hockey fandom when the Penguins suck. When the only thing to look forward to is the draft, you want to talk about that with other fans that understand prospects, draft picks, and the farm system. If HF does die I will also likely watch much less hockey.

I just hope the dark mode comes back, the white background is painful
It works on my.samsung browser but not on Chrome for some reason.

I didn't even set HF , it's just that my Samsung browser is dark themed and that carried over to hf.

I legit never used that browser before and now it is my hf exclusive browser. If you don't have a Samsung phone then I dunno what to do

Wow. You just gave me an epiphany. I've wondered recently why I still watch hockey when I don't enjoy it like I used to and your theory must be it. I must watch so that I can read, post and continue to feel a part of the community here. If this community were to ever go away, I'd probably watch and follow hockey a lot less, especially during the regular season. Maybe my hobby isn't so much following hockey, but following HFBoards. 🤔

Does that mean that my hobby isn't following hockey, but following HFBoards? 🤯
It means that you are destined to be a shepherd

Are we getting back the team forums as individual links not under a sub forum, or are they staying like this?

I wish people fully migrated to discord rather than stay on this site. The insanely bad ad placements and the awful servers have just got to go.

They just never seriously committed to making a better website.

I don't remember my specific post count prior to this (around the 14'000-16'000 range) but I probably lost over 5000+posts and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Any chance those of us who lost a good portion get some of them back?

Would be nice for the notifications to be on the right, and accessible with just one tap on my phone.

Rather than tapping the 3 lines in the left, then the bell to see notifications.
