canada would also probably like to bring natural wingers instead of all centers so how many wings are legitimately better than nash?

St. Louis. I think he'd make it before Nash. Maybe Neal or E. Kane.

Otherwise, not really anyone there I'd even glance at before I take Nash.

I may be wrong but I think that if Staal stays healthy he has a really good shot of making Team Canada. I looked at this awhile ago. Who does Canada have on the back-end?

Doughty
Pietrangelo
Weber
Letang

Keith
Seabrook
Staal
Myers
JBo
Phaneuf
Girardi
Hamhuis
Giordano
Campbell
Green

I really don't see a combination of 6 players I would put together without Staal on it.

I believe Doughty, Weber and Seabrook are all RD's. Keith and Staal as LD's.

Stepan has really played well in the International play. Remember he lead the whole World Junior Tourney in points. I think he had 8-9 points on the world Championship and he was the captain of that World Junior team. Jimmy Johannson who runs USA hockey does not forget that stuff. I say Stepan , Mac, and Cally will play on the American team.

That was on an NHL sized rink in Canada. Stepan's skating will be problematic in taking care of the defensive responsibilities required from a center on large ice..

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that Canada decides to bring in Staal/Girardi as a 3rd pairing that can play on the PK together.

I'm hoping the deal to have NHL players in the olympics falls through and it doesn't happen.

Would rather not lose weeks out of the season for meaningless games.

Please explain to me how the oldest and most important sporting event in the world is "meaningless".

I'd almost go as far as calling two weeks out of a full season meaningless compared to the olympics

meaningless to nhl season...

nash is probably a lock on canada. he's good defensively and offensively. his big frame will help them carry pucks in as well and his skating translates to the bigger ice

imo hagelin is a lock if he continues to play how he has. the bigger ice will only benefit him more

cally is a tossup

mcdonagh imo is the most likely defenseman due to his skating, staal is possible (probably a lock if that back-end that NYR Boyler posted is right), don't see g getting a spot, lundqvist has a fair shake ;),

gaborik and richards will have to have a seriously good end to this season to even be considered

Meh, I don't like the Olympics anymore because it's over-commercialized and all about money now.

The NHL is the same way, but at least they don't pretend to be something they're not. It's like a pig without lipstick.

Actually, who cares what the Olympics state officially. Don't get too wrapped up in all that nonsense about pretending. Nobody thinks that it is not about money. Everything is about money, so might as well accept it for what it is.
Now that we have that established, the Olympics are a lot of fun, especially the Winter Olympics.
You did not think the hockey was fun to watch? You did not think it was better than what you see most of the time?

No way Hrivik makes the Slovakian team as it stands right now. They have a load of players in the KHL who are better than him. He's probably around 20th in their depth chart.

Gaborik, Hossa, Mikus, Bliznak, Satan, Handzus, Kukumberg, Kopecky, Hudacek, Surovy, Bartecko, Bartovic, Jurco, Tatar, Panik and Marcel Hossa are a good bit ahead of him IMO. And then there's guys like Cibak, Radivojevic and Dano who you could make a case for.

Oh look another one that thinks that if it ain't the good ole NHL it's meaningless. Sure didn't look meaningless to Hank in 06.

Slow skaters actually often succeed with more ice, especially if it's not all too physical.

MZA is an average skater and he dominates on the larger ice surface.

The larger surface is more of a problem for D's.
I.x. Torontos Cody Franzon was close to a bust in Swedish SEL this fall. And there are many more examples of good NA defenders, who struggled in Europe.

So yes, I agreed with you.

Hey Leetch, Stepan had 8 points on the World Championship team two summer's ago that was played on a big sheet. He had 9 points on the USA 18's in 5 games. When you search your fact's you need to get by just looking at the pictures!! He makes it!!
