Is this for real? Matthews despite his slow start is a top 5 C. Kane is a middle 6 winger.

Current Matthews over prime Kane is easy for me too. The "Game 7" piece doesn't resonate with me either. If we're talking goalies or basketball players, then I put way more stock in the clutch factor. But Matthews is a better scorer, a better 200 ft player, and gives you a top 5 center as opposed to a top 5 wing.
