Who are you taking if you’re team had a must win game 7 tomorrow?
Matthews (27 years old, 6 G, 14 points in 15 games this season)
Kane (36 years old 3 goals, 10 points in 20 games this season)

Last season Matthews had 69 goals and 107 points in 81 games while Kane had 20 goals and 47 points in 50 games.

But of course Kane has a history of being a clutch game 7 producer while Matthews doesn’t…

I get the point from the OP. Just how much is "clutch" worth? Someone that is clearly past their prime, but always raises their game in the post season and big moments, vs the premiere superstar who has struggled with playoff production.

It's an interesting concept. But I think you would have gotten more discussion and viewpoints from a regular thread instead of a poll like this. Because Matthews is the clear choice over Kane, so no one will put much other thought into it.

If you are relying on current Matthews or current Kane to win in a game 7, may as well start waxing the golf clubs.
But to answer the question, I would roll the dice on Matthews.

In elimination games overall his numbers are really strong though. I can’t remember them off hand but it’s something like 50 in 39

I believe it’s actually 50 in 37. Also this is far above the normal range as most players we think of as clutch are even well below a point per game like Sakic and Kucherov off the top of my head. I think it’s actually quite rare to be above a point per game over a large number of elimination games.
