If Montreal pass on Wright, it's literally like we won the lottery twice.

A year ago, people were willing to tank for this kid. One below average season doesn't change that.

Honestly even then I'd prefer 6+12 and take my chances on signing Gaudreau rather than grab Laine and lose out on Gaudreau
Same. Johnny was 4th in Hart voting . 2nd in scoring , leader in 5on5 production .. Adding him for zero assets spent is massive.
Absolutely we should go hard to get him .

Perfect off-season (in my opinion)
Draft Slafkovsky
Sign Gaudreau , Marchment , Lyubushkin
Trade for Puljujarvi
Trade for Hellebuyck , Bobrovsky @50% retained or Gibson @ 50% retained (one or more of Blackwood ,Holtz , Sharangovich, pick besides #2 . I know Gibson and Bob will be an unpopular take )
Trade Ty Smith , Zacha , Johnson , Tatar.

I don’t know man. To me, Wright feels like he may have almost peeked already or sooner than others while other kids look like their ceilings are higher. Also Wrights compete level looks like garbage. Numerous scouts question his work ethic and compete . That is 100% NOT what Fitz will go for (if his scouts get the impression that his compete level is questionable)
If Slafkovsky is pick #1 , Im not sure what Fitz does.

It does when the most important aspect when drafting is projection. When a player as hyped as Wright shows as little improvement in his game as he did in two years I think there's plenty of cause for concern on how much more development and potential there is to his game.

There's just nothing stand out about his game to me personally. Even his 200ft game and IQ which get hyped up a lot are extremely overrated to me.

Personally...no.

Still several years away before any of them would be making it over to North American and a lot can change between now and then. Devils would also own their NHL rights indefinitely. If the Russian players start to drop significantly, I still think you take them.
This is a very important consideration, as to the future cap issues we will eventually have. What a luxury it would be if we could slot in a Perevelov (for example) in a few seasons after having to trade someone who's due for a big contract that we can't afford.

The meltdown if the Habs take Slaf would be so funny to watch. A lot of them are basically like "give me Wright or give me death". It would only be outdone by my meltdown as we pass on Wright, Jiricek, Cooley, Nazar, Nemec to take Cutter or Kasper at 2OA.
I would have a meltdown to end all meltdowns if Slaf was picked by the Habs..and Fitz PASSED on Wright. Holy s--t.

The level of "irate-ness"(if there is such a word) I would be......

You better not f**k up, Fitz.

It's a simple choice to make : Slaf or Wright (if the habs take Slaf)

That's it.

As easy as choosing your left hand or your right hand (and that doesn't sound weird at all).

If Montreal takes Wright, it's also like the Devils win the lottery twice. Slafkovsky is a top 2 prospect who fills a precise and palpable Devils need almost immediately.

The Devils win whether the Canadiens take Wright or Slafkovsky. It's looking like a great day!

Haha I still want Niederreiter

I'd assume we'd have to add onto 2 in order to do it if they'd consider it at all.
Haha maybe Zacha + #2 will get it done. Jarmo loves 'em big and fast.

I‘ll tell you what. We will give you the 2nd overall for Makar and then we owe you one down the road. Trust us. We will come through for you down the road…

This makes total sense, why haven’t more teams done this?

But in all seriousness, are scoring wingers the only thing NJD considers for #2? I saw speculation around Chychrun for #2 and while Girard isn’t Chychrun he is still a very good top 3 defenseman signed long term who just turned 24.

I thought the GDT thread was suppose to replace this one, I can't keep jumping back and forth, I'm running out of dumb stuff to say.

It’s so hard to say. They still need some pieces. Scoring winger would be ideal but we also need to shore up the goaltending badly. But that wont involve 2OA.

Theres so much smoke around us and it makes me wonder if Fitz is going to swing for the fences today and the next week.

Girard is likely a no go for Fitzgerald. He is clearly attempting to build a big defensive corps. Brought in Siegenthaler and Graves and drafted Hughes and Muhkamadulin.

Many feel if he acquires a dman it will be a righty as Severson is entering the last year of his deal and there just aren‘t many righties in the system, although Hughes does play the right side in college.

I know I'm naive for complaining there are fools on Twitter, but I just got into a long post discussion about why Juraj Slafkovsky is a great prospect and what makes him an outstanding hockey player.

Some dude replies to me with three (3!) vitriolic and negative posts about essentially how awful I am for insulting Shane Wright.

None of my Slafkovsky posts mentioned Shane Wright. None of my Slafkovsky posts even mentioned he should be #1 in the 2022 draft (I actually have Wright ranked #1).

My question is: when did America become so polarized that everyone assumes that just because you're lauding one thing, it means you're putting down another thing? And when did it become okay to put down another human being for being high on the potential of a teenaged athlete?

Maybe these are rhetorical questions, but I just needed to vent.

People are emotionally unconfident and fragile, and oh, also stupid.
