Biggest crow eaters should be the people who whined that guys like Caufield, Keller, Bedard etc weren’t invited. “Bring the best players!”

This was a big boy’s tournament and they would’ve all been on the menu.

Proud of the U.S. effort. We’ve never been able to actually matchup with Canada until this week. Cant wait for the Olympics next year
Those guys would have been way better than Kreider/Nelson/Trocheck.

You could be correct that that Canada and US are the 2 best but I wouldn't be dogmatic about it.....Russia is always close to the top as well .....
People say this and it's simply not true anymore here are the russians currently in the NHL.

Not that great.

They are good in net but that's about it.

I was crushed seeing McJesus pot that goal, but the consolation was the goalie that won us our cup standing out and quieting some of the haters up north. Bottom line, he’s a big game goalie. Proud of him. We’ll see you boys from the north in the Olympics!
Man, I can't help but to admit Binnington won that game for us. Absolutely should have gotten player of the game, takes a special player to let in those two goals and then just get into the zone and shut it down.

I thought Binnington was our biggest weakness going into this tournament. I will eat that crow now. What a huge tourney for him and that OT... wow. Solid.

My senial father kept insisting that Binnington was a better goalie than Hellebuyck and that MacKinnon is the best player in the world. This tournament made him look like a genius.

When Binnington is locked in and in a zone he plays at an elite level, he proved that with his Blues cup run and he proved it here again. Unless there is a standout Canadian goalie come 2026 for the Olympics its Binners net.

Drew Doughty put up better numbers than Harley, Sanheim, Jarvis, Hagel, Konecny, Morrissey, Cirelli, Toews, and Parayko.

I will not tolerate the Drew slander anymore.

Marner was never bad in this tournament. He just had some early chemistry issues with McDavid.

With Binnington, I will definitely eat crow. He was brilliant, and with that performance it's easy to connect it to the clutch OT he had vs Sweden (where Marner was the hero even). Also I didn't know just how good of a puck mover Binnington is. He's reminding me of Mike Smith, who I really liked on the Oilers.

However, even though I would say Binnington is a lock for team Canada for the Olympics, he's not a lock to be the starter.

...nope, won't take that one back...no Logan Thompson or Mark Sheifele was moronic...Cirelli was a complete homer moronic pick...and Binnington SHOULDN'T have started every game when he was giving up muffins...my opinion and it isn't changing...
Fragile ego. Just admit you were wrong and enjoy the crow, it’s not that serious.

like when he was turned around from a shot staring into his own net, or when he was way out of position on that 1st goal after a huge rebound?

Happy we won, but let’s not pretend like he stole the show.
Binnington was objectively fantastic last night outplaying the best goalie in the world (not for the first time) and kept Canada in the game when they were getting dominated early in OT. He absolutely stole the show and frankly caught way more crap from Canadian fans than he deserved all tournament long.

...that's untrue; he was mediocre for most of the Tournament, look at the first three games...look at the goals from last night...yes, he shut the door AFTER it and thank the Hockey Gods he did, but it doesn't change facts; the criticism of him was more than warranted...same as the criticism of Cooper was...same as the criticism of Marner was...yes, they all came up HUGE when the chips were down and I have no problem eating crow over that, however it's not just "Look, they finally came through, you all were wrong" cuz it wasn't just Black & White; there was a LOT to crtiticize...you wanna be blind to it, fine; makes no difference to me...

Let this be a lesson to all of you . . . always retcon your posts before anyone quotes them, so you can have perfect takes all the time like me

...why??...cuz what we said then was true but it worked out in the end when the ones who deserved to be critiqued finally showed up??...nope...I'll "eat crow" that it eventually worked out, but to BLINDLY just erase all the past games cuz they were GREAT last night is just part & parcel of this Generation of 5-minute intervals of Attention Span...

The tournament was amazing. Teams were disjointed due to the short length but their heart and will to win was on full display.

My biggest issue all tournament was binnington, and I’ll give him full credit on his ot performance last night. However, I’ll stop short of declaring to eat crow. He did not look comfortable again at all through regulation, constantly over-committing and losing his crease. Canada was fortunate to get to overtime imo.

He came up absolutely huge in overtime and on that alone deserved game MVP though, and I’ve never been happier to cheer for him. We did not look good at all in the ot but he willed us to victory.

Those Canadians that were actively hoping to lose due to personnel decisions don’t deserve to enjoy the win that this team gave us. Instead of crow, they can eat a bag of d**ks instead.

...I really don't think anyone in Canada wanted them to lose...I know I didn't...doesn't mean that those players didn't deserve to be criticized when they were...

Absolutely we should debate and critique, that’s our right as fans.

But there were people actively stating that they hoped we’d lose so that our dinosaur, nepotism management could be cleaned out.

I will cheer for any player that is chosen to represent my country, even if I don’t agree that they should be there over someone else. The jersey is more important than the name tag.

...yup...I'm a Habs fan from Nova Scotia; I absolutely DESPISE Marchand, have since he came into the League...most of the time, I'm ashamed that we're from the same place...in the last week, I've LUVED the little weasel b@[email protected]'s over now, but when they have the Maple Leaf on, the name doesn't matter... :thumbu:

My brother, as a leafs fan, was going through the same thing lol. He felt dirty, but he was cheering him on just as loudly as any Boston fan would even though he had to soak in the shower after to clean himself off.

I'll eat it regarding Marner. He at least earned his place on the team and looked like he belonged in the top 6. However 2 good games doesn't undo 8 years of playoff failure, I still want him nowhere near my favourite NHL team.

Binnington is the topic that deserves the most crow. Most people couldn't let their personal bias not interfere with their opinions of him as a goalie, which was hilarious to see. He's one of the best big game goalies in the league, and outdueled everyone's favourite playoff sieve. I certainly enjoyed rubbing my Jets' fan friends noses in it last night, their least favourite goalie lead the country to a win against their saviour.

Speaking of Hellebuyck, he's another topic for this thread. Jets fans and spreadsheet jockeys love to parade him around as the best goalie since Price, which he's proven yet again is flat out wrong. USA outplayed Canada for a lot of the game and goaltending was the difference (As was Matthews' inability to finish, but that's business as usual for him in a big game). He was yet again the worst goalie on the ice in a big game. I'm not saying Hellebuyck was as terrible last night as he usually is in the NHL playoffs, but two of those goals were stoppable if he didn't sit so deep in his net like he always does.

Despite what most people said pre-tournament, Bennett proved he belonged, and has got to be one of the 7-9 locks at forward for 2026. His performance should also help someone like Wilson make the team next year.

Many of you had written him off, but Doughty was one of Canada's best d-men yet again. The old dog still has it, and next year the right side should be locked up with Makar-Doughty-Pietrangelo.

Binnington was extremely clutch for Canada in the end. He made the saves that mattered and gave Canada a chance to win every game, saving his best performance for the biggest game of all. I'll gladly eat crow about him and am fine with him being the front-runner for the starting job in Italy.

I can always respect someone standing by their opinions with conviction.

Good post.......

...I will certainly eat crow here for his play in the last couple of games...he showed up HUGE when it was all on the line...coming back from such an injury, I should have given my opinions of his first two games much more leeway...my mistake... :thumbu:

Nah. They would’ve gotten caved by Canada & Sweden. They have no motor and d-zone ability. Maybe bring Thompson or Robertson instead of Kreider. But the small, soft guys would’ve been exposed here much like we saw with EP & Hughes, etc

I did not think he had it, but now have got to say that Binnington executed and came in clutch. Hats off to him.

I was quite wrong on that guy.

His post game interview was also exceptional. Where's the Bin I know?
