Lets for a second pretend that Crosby would actually want to be traded and the Avs would be the team he'd want to go to. You're realistically looking at the St. Louis return on steroids, which was Callahan, a guaranteed 1st and a conditional 1st based on making the cup finals (which the Rangers did). That was with St. Louis demanding a trade due to his Olympic snub and only allowing a trade to the Rangers.

Even with Crosby picking the location, I'd expect something like 2 1sts and a young roster player for him, possibly with a prospect on top of that as well.

If, 'if' he did decide that he wanted to be traded in order to chase The Cup one more time...don't expect much in return. If he's going there for the specific reason to make another run, he wouldn't want them trading away those pieces that make the team that he'd want to go to in the first place.

So maybe a couple of years worth of late first rounders & maybe a B to C level player also...maybe. But Colorado (or whoever) isn't going to strip their team/future down just to get Sid for a year or two, not if they're already 'that' good.

Or we can just stop & accept that he's a Penguin for life, or at least his playing career.

It still 2 year and a half to Crosby Contract
Losing a lot isn't in Crosby mentality.
It 's hard for mental to be in a losing team.
Crosby will decide if he want to leave the Penguins.
If he taking care of Pens franchise he will accept to go to accelerate the Pens rebuild

What was he told when he signed? "Hey we're still in win-now mode!" or "Yeah - we're gonna gut this thing like a fish."

Why do you think this team wasn't crystal clear about this team's future with him when he re-signed?

They traded Guentzel last year and Crosby re-signed after.

If Crosby ever leaves it should be to the Ducks, for a “what could have been” scenario if the lottery didn’t hate us.

Let's be real, if Crosby is leaving Pittsburgh, he's coming to his childhood team, Montreal and finish the rebuild

If Crosby wants to leave because he wants to win, why would he go to the Habs which haven't won anything in 30 years?

He's not leaving to "finish the rebuild" for a team.

I could see Crosby getting disgusted at the direction the Pens are going in, and wanting to go on one more Cup run. I can also see the PIT organization and fans being fine with that, as long as he goes out West.

The guy has earned one more kick at the can. It will not destroy his legacy in PIT.

He and Mackinnon on the same team would be... interesting. Mittlestadt could move to the wing.

Crosby won’t leave the Penguins. If he does, he’ll choose his destination and the price won’t be very high because it will be Sid’s wish to go there and the Penguins won’t have any leverage and won’t deny him if that’s his choice. Not saying that the acquiring team, likely Colorado, wouldn’t have to pay but it would not be the haul people envision when discussing a Crosby trade nor set the Pens up for the future. It also won’t happen.

Lol. The only place he'd ever get traded(Which again is like 1% chance) is Colorado.

I would imagine the deal would be something like Ritchie + 2026 1st + 2027 2nd which can become a 1st.

That seems like a worse deal that Tampa got for St. Louis.

Especially because you're giving up future year 1sts instead of this year 1sts.

No.... The premise of the thread is Summer 2025. That's after the 2025 draft.

Ritchie is one of the best prospects not in the NHL at this point.

The Avs aren't going to bid against themselves here. Getting an A tier prospect, at least one first with a good chance at a second first is a good return in the situation where Sid literally only wants to go to Colorado and play with Mack.

Scott Wheeler had him ranked like 47th in his July prospect update. He wouldn't even be the best Penguins prospect.

We know the market value for "star players with only one destination that we'll go to", though. A top-50 prospect, a late 1st and a 2nd that might become a 1st just isn't going to cut it for a guy of Crosby's caliber.

It doesn't matter if you don't want to "bid against yourself", Marty St. Louis brought back as much and he's not Sidney Crosby.
