Cringiest crowd chants?

Always find it interesting to read American monolingual opinions and ideas.
Like a 35 year old ubiquitous international football/sports chant with only a few very basic words in a couple languages couldn't be known, sung, or understood by a Quebecois, German, or just about anyone?

I think the posters comment was more in the idea that francophone Quebecers who love to protect their language using a Spanish chant, you don't see English fans chanting in German or Czech etc.

This, and yes it is indeed hilarious how the francophones have latched on to that chant so firmly, claiming it as "theirs".

There are plenty of "olé", "allez" and "forca x" chants in non-spanish, non-french or non-italian speaking parts of Europe. It's just fun. As a european I find the olé chant the habs does to be one of the few fun ones in the NHL. It actually has melody to it.

Anyway here is one instance of english Liverpool fans chanting "allez":

Montreal is one of if not the most *european* city,s in North America so it's not suprising popular soccer chants made their way here in hockey. And thinking every Quebecer wants to defend the french language so much as to be ignorant and deny a sports chant in another language is ridiculous. This is a sports chant we are talking about lol. I'm pretty positive most teams in the MLS in north america all have chants like these , its just because we are the only ones to do it in hockey that people notice it that much

I mean at this point hearing the Montreal crowd use the OLE soccer chant reminds me of that "special friend" that screams in the corner or at the wall in attempt to draw attention yet everyone ignores him because he's "special".

Leave them be, if they want to act "special" let them be "special".

It's equally cringe as the Bruins crowd chanting USA USA.

I see a tiny bit of irony/humor there, yet it remains interesting for me how small that bubble is that some fans exist in.

Don't want to rewrite my original comment, but that chant is so old and widely used worldwide it's not really Spanish. Irish love it, for example. If anyone was a UFC fan they'd be familiar with it from an Irishman's fans chanting at weigh-ins and arenas in Vegas and Boston. Hell, it's in the UFC 2 video game.

The "True North" chant Jets fans do during the anthem is really the only one that I actually hate. Overall I am fine with crowds having fun even if it is a dumb chant.

I absolutely don’t believe people are getting rattled because some francos they don’t know are singing a Spanish word in a chant used worldwide.

Absolutely no one is claiming that. Everybody knows the chant has been borrowed from European soccer fans. You just made that up.

Absolutely no one is claiming that. Everybody knows the chant has been borrowed from European soccer fans. You just made that up.

I'm not saying Habs fans invented it, but you and I both know if that chant were to pop up in ANY OTHER ARENA, some Habs fan would post in here or create a new thread accusing that fanbase of copying Montreal's chant.

Of course, the only way that chant ends up in another NHL arena is if the Habs are on the verge of losing, and the home crowd is looking to troll them. Even then, it's pretty unlikely.
