More teams, worse players in league
Smaller goalie equipment
Barely any hitting , guys don’t have to be worried about getting smoked anymore
Overtime 3 on 3
Coaches pulling goalies with 4 minutes left easy points

I’m sure their is other reasons as well.

General gist I got from this is advancements in technology; experimental mental technique to make players smarter; smaller goalie equipment; and an overall increase in athleticism has contributed to the increase of skill among today's players.

Athleticism hasn't increased. What has increased is the insane amount of skill development that is being done from the youngest age. Parents are paying for private skill sessions 5-6x a week since these kids are as young as 7.

More money in the sport, more skill work, and this is what we are getting.

Goals sell tickets. The league has changed rules to help drive offence. Add in expansion watering down the talent (all you suggest) and stick technology improving too and of course scoring goes up. Scoring today is equivalent to when Yzerman put up 150+ points.

Goal scoring isn’t near what it was.

From 1979 to 1996, 10 times out of 16 seasons (there was a shortened one in there) there were between 8 and 14 people scored 50+ goals every year.

Literally 63% of the time over 16 seasons you saw a minimum of 8 players record 50+ goals and a maximum of 14.
