Craig Button Mock Draft 2025

I like desonoyers better as a top 5 pick and frondell better than o'brien as well I see O'Brien as more of a 7-11 prospect than a top five

Doubt Flyers draft Martin now that I’ve heard Overhardt is his agent. Overhardt also represents former Flyers like Cutter Gauthier, Ryan Johansen, Joel Farabee, and passed over prospect Buium.

Knowing the flyers FO and scouting ineptitude you could certainly be right. A player who can’t think the game or process it to play with Michkov, what could go wrong?
In fairness, the only player in this draft that could probably play with Michkov is Hagens and the lottery balls most likely killed that possibility for you. Potentially O'Brien as well but he doesn't have NHL level pace in his game right now and maybe never will. If you want to find that player today trading for Zegras is probably your best bet.

Regarding Martin, I'm surprised your fanbase is so down on him. He has more skill than you're giving him credit for and is a game changer with his physicality. Come playoff time, every team will wish they had drafted him. If he is available at 6OA, take him and run. Future captain and fan favorite.

Flyers should just take the leftover of Schaefer, Misa, Hagens, Martone, Frondell, and Desnoyers. After seeing that Kurt Overhardt is Martin’s agent, I’m confident he’s not an option at 6. Overhardt is Gauthier’s and Johansen’s agent, two players they’ve had drama with recently. Then they skipped on Buium, another Overhardt client. Then they traded Farabee, yet another Overhardt client. The Flyers and Overhardt seem to have a sour relationship

We hate him. He doesn't even look like a top 10 pick.

He doesn't play smart. Won't play smart off a genius IQ play in Michkov. He's skating is mediocre. He makes dumb decisions.

I'd take him in the teens without a doubt. Absolutely not at 6. I would much prefer Obrien, but even then I still want the Hagens/desnoyers MAYBE Frundell over him.

If i’m the Islanders i might trade down a bit and try to get another high end pick either this year or next year . trade down 4th get hagens and get another high end pick .

Whoever gets o brian wins the draft kids better then desnoyers frondell and haggens.

The way things are going I wouldn't be surprised if he gets picked 3rd overall.

FYI Nathan Beaulieu is not french canadian but his name definitely makes it confusing.

IIRC his dad's Quebecois but Nate the Gr8 didn't speak a lick of French.

If Bergevin was still GM in Montreal, I might agree that the Habs would take aim at Carbonneau. Hughes isn't Bergevin. He's a lot smarter. He may have someone already in mind, and I could see him instead doing something akin to what he did to draft Hage last summer. The Habs have abundant resources available to do so.

Seems like you’ve really changed your tune on Martin past week or so. I recall we debated his upside in Martin’s thread recently and you didn’t want to use a high pick on him.

What made you change your mind?

A couple of things I guess. First was the lottery. Martin probably wasn’t a good choice for Philly or Boston at 4/5 but at 6/7 I think he makes a lot of sense. Second, I just thought about it some more and accepted that he is top 8-10 in this draft as an impact player. This draft has very few impact players but he could be one of them. No way he doesn’t go too 10 the way I see it now.

Reschny at 9 on the other hand still seems way too high for me.

Eklund at 13 is something.
I would be pretty happy with that as a wings fan. They dont necessarily need smallish wingers, but he plays big and is really effin good.

Its weird how some guys are getting this big boost because of the u18, while Eklund was too busy having an unreal U20 at Christmas time to care. Completely different levels of tourneys
This year's Zach Benson if that happens
I think Eklund is noticeably bigger than Benson and plays even harder, but I dont think Benson got the hype that Eklund was during his draft year. I dont think theres a way this actually happens, its just public lists getting overhyped about certain guys

I'm really interested in what the 7 teams with multiple first rounders do on draft day.

Nashville 5,26,30 (they also have 35,58)
Philly 6,24,25 (they also have 36,40,45,48)
Calgary 18,22 (57)
Montreal 16,17 (41,49)
Columbus 14,20
San Jose 2,28 (33,53)
Chicago 3,29 (34,60)

With the drop-off around 15 I could see lots of jockeying to maneuver if certain players drop and the right team is keen on them but who knows.

This draft will be unpredictable after 10. No one will trade up in this draft. Better having two bullets than 1.

He would be a soild pick for us at 25th but not 5th overall. We already are the biggest losers in the lottery and him at 5th would be the end of Barry Trotz.
Funny that Button just threw him in there without any real explanation.
Sounds like picking him at 5 is more than worth it then

The Sharks also drafted his linemate import - 2024 draft.

I think he scored 55 pts in 30 games.

From the lotto ball brief interview - it doesn't sound like Misa wants to play wing. Not sure how much teams care about that kind of flexibility these days.
There's an easy way to avoid that. Do better than your competition at taking care of all the non-offensive responsibilities of a center.
