Craig Berube Named the 32nd Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs

I appreciate Berube's contribution to the team and there was definitely a different feel to it. But there is a round peg, square hole aspect to the roster at the moment, especially at the forward group which has not really undergone the Treliving-Berube retool.

The challenge here will be to introduce the quantity of changes to turn it into a Berube team in the runway that an NHL coach still has the ear of the team. If it takes 2-3 years to get the right pieces in place but a coach only has a 3-4 year shelf life, this transformation may not ultimately be the right course.

I think we might be headed to a nuclear winter rebuild in 2-3 years anyway.

Kept Nylander stapled to JT's corpse when they were getting owned in certain matchups and didn't bother breaking up Marner and Matthews when they had nothing going in most games

It's a game of adjustments the deeper you go into a series, and he barely did anything.

Changing chairs on the titanic wasn't the difference.

A big issue with him was not playing Laughton at centre consistently from the trade to get him until like 6 games left in the season. A waste of time having him on the wing for as long as he did.

By that logic. Maurice was an idiot changing how the team treated Willy? I think the result proves in this case that it's worth it to change your game plan
I'm talking a nine year process where the core got worse and worse in key playoff games. What Maurice did in line matchups for one series is not seeing the forest for the trees.

But Willy was tied for the lead in the entire NHL playoffs for points. He had 3pts in two games against the defending champs. Maurice changed the game plan and his production dropped without even an attempt by the coach to correct that.

What happened for years past regarding Willy doesn't really matter right now?

Lead us to a Cup Chief .. please .. da city needs it .. it has been too long Chief .. all hail da chief
Chief ended up being a squaw in the playoffs. No Billington to save him here.
His puck management was all about dump and chase and having your D bounce pucks off the boards so the opponents can shoot more pucks on net and then proclaim “look how many shots we blocked”

Start of the season

Berube “ I will not take the sticks out of their hands”

Then goes out and plays dump and chase and took the sticks out of the stars hands and gave them Rod Langway shine pad to block shots.

“Here 34 …we know you are hurt but can you play the PK . I know you never played it before and we have others to play it but here this another job. Sorry it wears you out at end of game blocking shots and all but that’s my system and I lied that I will put my players in position to succeed.

We played 12 good games out of 82 in the reg season.

Played probably three really sound games in the playoffs.

Man alive.. we need the Jays to catch some fire to take some of the sting out.

A good Canada Gold Cup run as well. I'm more pissed than i've ever been in any era.

Berube simply has to demand players for his system or they agree to part ways.

To be fair Cats just had a better tender and had more speed and physicality on their forecheck then we do .. both teams D shoot puck high and hard on glass when they have no play .. basically exactly da same system from what I could see at Scotia .. like most of us thought Berube just did not have da thugs to outthug da cats .. cats will win it again pretty easy .. they have da tending da D and da fast nasty grittier forwards to win playoff hockey .. we don't yet .. we are closer but not there yet

I think that Treliving-Berube retool of the forwards is coming this summer.

They won 52 games and you think they only played 12 good ones.

That means you think they won 40 games they didn't deserve to win.

That's impossible no team wins 40 games they didn't deserve.

Every team wins games they shouldn't but they don't win 40 of them that's impossible.

I question how many games you actually watched, and if you did were paying attention and do you know what you are watching?

I don't think you do since you basically said they deserve to go 12-70

Because when you say they played 12 good games that is what you are saying.

I watched pretty much everyone. Maybe missed 5 but would have checked the highlights, numbers etc to get a feel for the game.

12 would be the number where we outshot, out chanced and outplayed the opposition.. that or we just battled from start to finish.. Some of those games were losses.

Most nights, we were just crap. Playing systems and tactics that don't fit the team, hoping to bullshit results which we did, generally off the backs of our goaltenders. Some nights our D and the odd night our forwards but rarely did we play really well in getting those results.

The least entertaining hockey we have had since Matthews and Co. got here and the promise was that we were built different and we would see it at playoff time.

We played 2 or 3 really good games in playoffs and that's it.

I can't stand Berube hockey but for the love of god, give him players for his dump out and dump in systems.. fast, gritty with good specials .. Similar to Carolina actually. Berube and Rod the Bod coach up similar styles.
