Craig Berube Named the 32nd Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs

They elude to them all the time, I'm sure it is addressed. What else do they talk about? All I'm saying, I liked that Berube came in without the scars and focused on a new day, I give him a pass for that approach. The head coach can stay above things, leave it to the minions.
if we're all thinking about the blue elephant, we might as well talk about it than play pretend that we are not. Just my opinion but I think he should have had a conversation, even if his mindset was to show support and tell them he's not judging them for it rather than just ignore it. I'm all for moving on but I doubt this wouldn't have helped in that regard. It's subjective though. I also see where you are coming from.

I agree with this - the elephant in that room was so big, that it's careless and insane for Berube not to have addressed it.

Simply sweeping it under the rug, ignoring it, and pretending like everything's fine and that we are all focused on moving on, just repressed a bunch of trauma that came crashing back to reality in game 5.

We don't have the horses for it. Top to bottom All Florida players play a certain way. Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews, William Nylander, etc. can't play that type of game. It's not in their DNA. After 9 years I'm tired of this. I'm ready for a rebuild. Get rid of the stench of the core 4 once and for all. They just can't get it done.
Forget having the horses; if we tried to play like Florida we've rival the Broad Street Bullies in penalty minutes.

I'm sure he has brought it up but also doesn't fixate on it. But who knows.

Berube qoute from today about how to win game 7: "Have to work before skill, then the skill can take over".

This is the perfect approach as will beats skill if skill does not bring will.

I think the Leafs may have finally learned that lesson
I will wait till after the game to see if any lessons are learned.

Babcock was quoted as reminding Matthews from his summer trip to Arizona with, something to the effect that your work ethic has to exceed your talent in order to achieve success.

The man’s a sociopath but he’s no dummy.

Same result as Keefer and such a way worse product to watch then Keefer.
Trap low event hockey is boring and basically you play not to lose instead of trying to win.

Putting a square peg in a round hole. Top six minus Knies are not the horses you need for this boring system.

Berube said his system will wear down the opponents etc. Hit them often

I can honestly say I never seen that happen

We had a better team this yr than what Keefer had. Better vets D and goalies.

Yet the backend can’t score and we’re one of the worse scoring D’s in the league and our bottom six was pathetic again and we wasted a lot of assets like a 1st for a 4th line player

How many times do we need to get out hit and out shot and lose puck possession time to realize that the system doesn’t fit the players.

It came down to compete, he's not a heart surgeon.
He's a coach, either his system sucks or he can't get players to follow it which has the same outcome.

Also he stuck with the same roster and lines outside of those minor changes in game 5 up until the third period of game 7, by which point it was way too late. Every prior coach used to get heat for refusing to make in-game adjustments when things weren't going well, why should Berube get a pass?

The posters above are correct, his system is nothing special and boring to watch to boot. I was told we'd be winning tight defensive contests 2-1, not getting blown out in two consecutive home games. Florida was running interference non-stop in the last few games so why didn't the D do the same here? Meanwhile our forwards were doing dump & change instead of dump & chase.

Cant keep making excuses. It's 10 years of the same core not even coming close to playing at a level it needs to be dominant in the playoffs. These guys are a bunch of Demar Derozan's. You can say its the coach, system, bottom 6 etc but it comes down to core 4, rielly etc. They are just not good enough. Picked super high in the draft and Toronto elevates them to more of what they truly are. They are not good enough, plain and simple. Just spinning wheels for years.

There's no cohesiveness when they play, no drive, no dogs and they don't produce while getting paid +++ like they do , above and beyond.

The team needs a reset

Fill the team with Tod Langways with over sized shin pads and Berube would be in heaven.

We praised players like Gilly and Wendle and the Tuckers of the world and they won squat here.

I wonder if say …..we won and got swept by the canes would the pitch forks still come out?

The teams in 93 had a 3-2 lead and blew it. The following yr we made it again against Van and won the first game and then got swept. Those players are treated like hero’s are they not?

Here today we treat our players especially our stars like crap.

Blow it up the mediots want you to proclaim. I remember 67 and those yrs. Good times talking hockey back then and how sports writers were professional.

Nowadays it’s always doom and gloom.

Will be interesting where Marner goes if he even leaves. If he does I hope he wins a cup like Kessel and parades it in TO. :)

I can honestly say I watched almost every game this yr and Berube hockey was one of the worst to watch.

I suppose to get hits you can’t have the puck so the teaching is dump the puck in so forwards can hit and punish ( I laugh with all that plastic armour that did we see a panther punished? or a Sens defenceman?)

I always wondered why giving up puck possession is a good thing?

Dump and chance with no horses doesn’t make sense and asking D to bounce pucks off the boards so they can pat their stats in block shots seems silly doesn’t it?

Low even hockey is like going to a Meryl Streep drama IMHO :)

Another yr older for Tanev, Reilly and OEL. Is it too late to ask them to improve their shooting so maybe we can have a bit of offence from the back end?

BYW was it worth a 1st rd pick for a soon to be 31 yr old who gave us 2 assists and a -3 during these playoffs? I suppose fans will defend him because he is a Ont boy and are convinced he played with heart ….haha

I wonder what Reaves is thinking now. Tre gave me a retirement check and never used me. Another bad signing that supposedly was done to help the locker room?

Is it too late to trade him to the other 27 teams that have failed this yr? I mean they must need locker room leadership ….no?

BTW how many draft picks do we have now ?

Regroup and hopefully use our cap properly.

Tre has work to do and Berube isn’t this so called great culture change coach that he was proclaimed to be after beating a 7th seed team.

Florida’s system is nothing special either. They execute.
