The Preds have a sneaky good pool of younger prospects…this idea that they completed eviscerated the future to sign UFA’s is false. Molendyk, Surin, Kemell, ZLH, Svechkov, Edstrom…plus 3 first rounder and 2 second rounders in the 2025 draft.

The Preds are actually pretty damn flush with really good assets. Molendyk and Surin are blue chippers for me. It just seems incongruous with the make-up of what the summer of Trotz was about. That and they don’t have that singular young star or elite prospect to reboot around.

The problem is…the last thing the Sabres need is more solid prospects or picks.

I don’t see the fit.

Nashville would struggle to fit him under the cap unless someone with a NTC/NMC agrees to go to Buffalo. That seems unlikely.

Cozens is five years post draft, was drafted at #7, and his numbers have dropped off for two straight years. Cozens was taken right before Broberg, who the Oilers just let go. Cozens is signed for over $7 million/year and not playing anywhere near to that contract.

Cozens is likely being moved as part of a hockey deal or for another similar struggling prospect that feels a separate need for the Sabres.
