Value of: Cozens to Habs...at what price?

You knew there was gonna be Sabres fans coming in here whining about how they don't want picks lmao.

Helpful tip: You can flip draft picks for current assets. You're out to lunch if you wouldn't take two mid firsts for Cozens at his incredibly depressed value.
Technically Cozens is not worth that much for his current output but we need to assume that he can be better.

I think he will be better on the Habs.

Regardless of what Buffalo needs might be or if Cozens would be a fit in Montreal (I don’t think he would), I think from a pure value perspective paying 2x mid first round picks for Cozens is laughable at best.

If Cozens isn’t the guy for 2C in Buffalo why would he suddenly be the perfect fit for Montreal?

Oh do you have the link to Montreal offering two 1sts? Or was that a fantasy post you are promoting as something that is real? And then attacking everyone who disagrees with you over a fantasy offer? lol.
Are you new to this board?
Because you sound like you're new

sabres aren't getting better with the current gm. pegula seems a bit reluctant to overspend. sabres taking back carey price contract could be a start, thats 10m he doesn't have to spend to reach the cap floor next season. maybe armia or savard to get habs caps compliant without sabres having to commit. toss in a 1st so it looks good and something else so it appears the sabres helped the habs accrue cap space. it can't look like the sabres want an insured contract they don't have to pay out.

Sabres fans don't like the offer, deal with it. And yes, Sabres don't need picks and prospects. No whining, just a fact.

Buffalo don't want picks and I'm certainly not paying our 2 1sts for him.

Too many question marks for a 7,1M$ player for another 5 years. We already did the experiment with Dach. We are going for a more known asset.
Who?

Not too interested in Cozens. He's only had one really good season. It would be another "let's hope he ends up being better in Montreal". Those didn't work too well in the case of Dach and Newhook. At least, so far.

I'd rather go for a well-established veteran 2C and bet on our prospects at C (Beck, Hage, etc.) developing into that potential down the road.

With Dach going down, it's clear that we need to find a 2C that can step into that role.

Problem is that so are a bunch of other teams.

The Habs have a pile of picks, including 2 in the first round. At this point, my guess is the Sabres are looking for team attitude game changers then more picks. Besides picks, we have is vet defenseman that Sabres don't need.

So are 2 mid first rounders enough?

The teams are poor fits in terms of need, beyond my suggestion, is there something that would make sense for both?

(And please, I know every Hab player is worth half as much or twice as much, depending on solar eclipses and moon tides. Try to keep it real....TRY)
Sabers fans tell me Buffalo doesn't have a scouting department so picks in mid/late round 1 don't hold much value when you waste um.

Habs have a big farm system... I'd like something around Beck + Hage + Mailloux for Cozens + Rosen + Wahlberg should be a base for teams to add. Make it a huge trade.

It's been said several times by good sources, they want a hockey trade. You can argue as you wants, it is what it is.

Maybe a deal can be created around Ghule / Cozens, but in that case, I assume Sabres would have to add.

Fine, use your picks for a f***ing established player to flip to us for Cozens. Since it’s so f***ing easy.

And with the limitation that the universe of players that work for this are basically only players that have 0 trade protection. That universe is comprised mostly of players that either: (1) suck and we, therefore, don’t want, or (2) are still in their RFA years and, therefore, other teams probably won’t want to trade them. Easy peezy :eyeroll:

If Buffalo trades him, they're adding to him to improve the team.

Montreal isn't doing that.

Buffalo isn't taking on a lesser pieces for Cozens.

Buffalo is set to miss the playoffs for the 13th, 14th, 15th, whichever it is. They're not rolling it back.

I can only see them doing that in a 3 way trade.

Buffalo has a deal to improve the team, but want/need to move out Cozens and that team isn't interested, so Cozens is dealt to a 3rd team

Like, people gotta stop trying to poach Buffalo players for 5 nickels for a quarter.
But do they have a choice? Buffalo has no leverage in this situation. Are they going to threaten to keep guys.. to not win?

Teams who are winners have the right to denand high prices

Just because your team is winning doesn't mean your players are worth a bunch.

If Buffalo says "Hey, I'm going to trade Cozens for a meh return" and if not time tries to up that, then that's his value. We all know teams will then up their price and give Cozens the value either way.

Even if Cozens publicly asks for a trade he's still getting a solid return.

Oh I wasnt debating how solid his return would be! Just that I think itll mostly be future, or at most a Dawson Mercer-type

This discussion all just goes to show you just how important it is to HIT in the draft for a team like Buffalo. And, quite frankly, they have not hit. Once you do, and you've got a 1st team all-star, a Mackinnon, or something close. Then you can build and win with that as your backboen and you at least pull yourslef out from being a dead last place anyone wants to play and you're not on EVERY no trade list.

Oh, and if Buffalo could get their head out of their ass they could hire more scouts and actually draft better. But they also refuse to do that. Sooo... here we are.
