Confirmed with Link: Coyotes to open 2023-24 season in Australia

I'm living in Sydney these days, so this is great news. I imagine the game will be in Melbourne, but I'll travel to see them.

And I know this is my first post in a year, but I've just been lurking in the shadows because I have nothing valuable to add to the conversations lmao

Well, now I see where these prick owners came up with the idea of reducing sth costs for 23/24….. they’ll most likely be charging for these games, attending or not.

If this is posted elsewhere, I missed it.

Not confirmed yet, but Coyotes appear to be one of the four teams headed to Australia.

Conflicting reports whether it is for a regular season game(s) or preseason.

Well...we don't have any preseason home games next season so it could be pre-season. Head scratcher though on the Yotes. If they are promoting the game I would think they would want to send a team like New York or Edmonton...

I was just watching the Tour Down Under, which as you probably know, started in Adelaide this year. Looked like a beautiful city.
Yeah, Adelaide is smaller than the other cities, but used to be 3rd largest (Brisbane & Perth passed it) as it has a lot of older buildings. They like to note that they are the only major city not founded as a penal colony originally. There are 2 major wine regions just to the north and just to the south of the city too, so that's nice.

AZ (Ausi) Kangaroos. I would embrace this fully. Run with it. Play to the marketplace.
Should we switch up our Native American southwest aesthetic to be native Australian aesthetic? Wonder if the league would allow a specialty uniform for this. Of course, a bit of bitter irony if the native theme team faces the British royalty themed team (Kings).

If Kings lean into that then we will be loved by the locals.

This is the arena where they'll play...outdoors!!! Oh, wait, a retractable roof.😏

Now that it's going to be at Rod Laver Arena, I may have to go. It's too bad they are exhibition games. I haven't gotten to go to the Australian Open yet either, but apparently they do Disney On Ice there too, so this isn't unprecedented. I thought the tennis stadiums mostly sat empty aside from being rented out for private matches in the offseasons.

All I can think of is a bunch of rugby and/or Australian Rules Football fans going to this, and afterward walking out saying, "These hockey guys are softer than my pet dingo!"

At least hockey is not as bad as American football where I'm sure they wonder "why do they keep stopping play?"

I used to love going to college football games, but when I went to my first NFL game in person I couldn't even believe it was the same sport. My daughter (who is still a huge hockey fan) was so bored we had to leave at halftime.

In the 90s a buddy of mine and I went on a tour of the UK and Ireland. Our last night before returning we stayed with a woman from our hometown who had married an English man and had two sons (in Staines, for any Ali G fans). Those sons would later end up coaching soccer at our high school. Anyway, there happened to be an NFL game on the telly, and that is exactly what those kids wondered - "why do they just stand there even while the clock's going? American football is boring!
