Hard to say - the value actually looks okay, but as people mentioned - the health is the key.

I like the kid's game but this seems way too early for this contract. Dvo's seemed a little early as well. They are betting heavily on these two guys being keys to the rebuild. Hope they are right.

That being said, I see what Chayka is doing. He is completely buying into his young core. Can't hate that, they are all talented players.
Not only is he buying into his young core, but it looks like, based on these deals, hes looking to create low AAV with the salary closer to the back end. If they do over achieve their AAV, then they become super valuable assets that can be moved to teams with money for significant returns. Not saying JC will move them, but that option becomes very easy for teams.

I think I’ve completely lost it. I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t love this deal. I think it’s great. I’m really totally confused by the lack of enthusiasm.

I don't think Chychrun has proven himself as a top 4, certainly not a #3 type. He's also blown out both knees and a shoulder already IIRC. Chayka held all the chips and overpaid a bit.

There's showing faith and then there's undeserved gestures. Like they couldn't even wait ten games back from his injury?

I’ve seen a different player then. The player I saw was remarkable. Clearly a top D in the making. I love the signing.

Flashes absolutely but not consistent stints of top level play which is usually what you want to see before handing out six years, doubly so for someone that has accumulated injuries.

I haven’t seen flashes. I’ve seen consistent stints of high level play from his very first week in the league after his draft year, and some unrelated injuries that amount to bad luck.

I like him better than 7-8 of the first 11 guys. Easily. Arguably more. Many have older deals. What’s your point? I think I like the contract even more.
Glad you aren't the GM, but I guess in this case you kinda are??

This player has bridge deal and prove yourself written all over him. So far in his career he has proven nothing with 34 NHL points in two season's.

If you think he's legit and then you bridge him, if he's as good as you think he is he costs 7mil next contract. if he isn't as good as you think he is your prob out of a job and it's not your mess anyways

Tgere are 12 D men with a $7 million Cap, I doubt Chychrun joins that group in a couple years.
