Why is no one talking about Kennedy? I thought his play was fantastic. His consistent play has really surprised me. Nobody has really given him a chance, maybe he can continue to turn heads.

I've been really impressed for the most part. I think sometimes he hangs onto the puck a little too long. For instance I noticed there was a couple times last night when he could have dished to vrbata earlier. He's great in the dirty areas though and shows some slick hands every once in a while.

Only saw the first period, and then wound up driving up to Buffalo Wild Wings on Happy Valley Road to meet up with a colleague, it was already 2-1 at that point.

But from what I saw in the first period, Kennedy was rock solid. That kid has some slick puck handling skills. There were quite a few times I saw him handle the puck behind the net and keep control of it for extended periods of time. If he can do that night in and night out, and allowing opportunities, he's a keeper. He's smaller, but he plays with a lot of energy. I can't complain about what I saw out of him. Glad we got the ROW, and with our next 2 games against the Islanders and the Hurricanes, very winnable games. Time to right the ship.

Remember when Maloney drafted the guy. He said something to the extent of how he believes that a Gormley-Murphy pairing could be a real good shutdown tandem for the Yotes for a long time. Now Gorm just needs to step and become that beast defensively I was pimping out 2 years ago. He'll get there but I am surprised at how long its taking to get his first game under his belt. I think everyone, even the ones that were big fans from the beginning are surprised at Murphy's progression to date.

It's incredible how he's progressed given how shockingly few hockey games he's played in the last half decade.

I thought Greiss played well and our D was solid positionally. How does Colorado have that many points? I know a few D are out, but that has to be the worst D we have seen this year. We looked like the Hawks controlling the puck in their zone at times. Teams are learning how to defend Colorado and there poor D is catching up with them. Golaie cooling off too. I don't see them making the playoffs, falling knife at this point..

I sure hope our play was a reflection of us being better and not Colorado being an awful team now. I guess we will find out in the next few games. I am sure glad Z is back and will be more happy when DMO is back. Schlemko/Stone/murphy are all shaky at times. Yandle, man is he a deadly play maker, a stud, why every team would want him, glad he is here to stay...

That's too many minutes for Murphy. Send him down!

Joking aside, it is good to see that Tippett just takes into account performance and nothing else. You play well and match well against a team? You play a lot. It is that simple with him.

What a great signing Greiss has been. The whole team plays with confidence when he is in.

That's also true, though I was referring to his new contract in Edmonton. We know LOL is pretty bad when he can't even get a regular start with the Oilers.

The following question is not Smith or Coyotes related and not intended to create any controversy. I am just keen to have your views, now that we have seen Greiss play a few games for us:

In your opinion, do you think Greiss could be a full time number 1 goalie in the NHL?

Yes. In fact, many of us had him on our list as a potential starter had Smith left as a UFA.

In the first period, we were not at all, I think either Tip or Playfair laid the wood out on these guys, as we played much much better from there on out. Some of it was turnover related, but the Avs slipped far too many passes between the circles. Fortunately, Greiss was on top of his game for all of these situations. There were at least two goals that he falt out denied b/c our defense was not in good position.

Yup. As Mosby said, many of us had him penciled in as a very good replacement if Smith had chosen not to stay. I always liked how he played for SJ.

I thought we played pretty well last night. I really freaken love Murphy's game. I am an absolute dumbass for not listening to hbk.

I have to admit I thought it would be a long road (if he ever made it) before Murphy reached the NHL. His injury history and lack of experience at each level, combined with having Z, DMo, Klesla, Stone and Rundblad all on the right side ahead of him put him at the back of a very long line.

He has played very well though and I'm excited. I like having two big defensemen that can play physical in Murphy and Stone. He does look bigger out there than I imagined. I thought hed be getting pushed around all game long. Now lets just replace Schlemko with Summers. Speaking of Stone I do not think he has been the worst defensemen out there and with the lack of production by our forwards his 7 goals have been huge. I agree its unrealistic to think he can finish with anything near his current shooting percentage but that shouldn't take away from what he had done up to this point.

Always nice having a prospect fly in from nowhere and steal a job. Too bad it never happens on forward. Murphy still doesn't quite look fluid out there with his skating. There's no doubt his best asset is his hockey IQ coupled with his rangy frame. I look forward to seeing what a filled out Murphy can do.

If LOL was once considered a potential #1 starting goaltender I see no reason as to why Greiss can't be one. His puck tracking skills are fantastic. Good rebound control. Very calm and collected in the crease

I think that's the case with almost every goalie drafted. And even greater still with goalies who actually crack the NHL at some point. They all have the tools. So much of being a regular starter is mental though. This is extremely evident with Bryzgalov for example, and even Smith to a large extent.

Not sure, let him play more and we will see what happens. He played great, kept us in the game when it was still tight.

LIVE BLOG HERE GOES:
9:03 - I say this as someone who does front end web stuff for a living: Gamecenter's UX is abysmal. I usually watch on my roommate's XBox, which is just okay, but I'm back to using the web browser version, and jeez.

9:07 - And ANOTHER thing: Anybody know why the commercials breaks on Gamecenter are sometimes local ads and sometimes that generic ice animation with complete silence? I'm guessing it has something to do with the TV rights but I haven't quite figured it out, and the minutes of silence really take me out of it.

9:08 - The one job qualification needed for Todd Walsh's job is charisma. He has no charisma.

9:11 - I'd like to meet the person writing out the sheet music to play "Jump" on the organ.

9:12 - In case you Arizonans are confused, all times are eastern time zone. The world doesn't revolve around Philadelphia, but it revolves around me, and I am watching the game from my sofa in Philadelphia.

9:13 - ACTUAL HOCKEY OBSERVATION: Hanzal has obviously taken a step forward offensively this year, but somehow his defense has, too. In particular, his stickwork (which was always a strength) would be elite even for a defenseman. If he can actually stay healthy enough to play 75ish games a year, he'll be a true number one center.

9:24 - McConnell just said that puck possession is a big part of the Coyotes' game every night. They're being outshot a full two shots per game. Of the ten teams ahead of the Coyotes in points percentage, only two others have a negative differential (Colorado and Montreal), and the Coyotes' is worse than both of them.

9:26 - Building off of that, there's a pretty strong correlation between Corsi (which includes blocked shots and shots attempts that miss the net) and winning percentage, but the Coyotes seem to subvert that trend year after year, overperforming relative to those advanced stats. I'm not sure what about their system seems to produce that anomaly, but it's been sustained for long enough that I believe it's more than a fluke.

9:35 - The secretiveness around Smith's condition tonight seems really odd to me. If he's sick, why not just say he's sick? And if he's sick, who is the backup tonight?

9:38 - Stone is going to have to diversify his game if he wants to be a legit top four defender in the NHL. Seems like other teams are getting wise to his skillset and gameplanning accordingly.

9:39 - For such a quick period, that was awfully boring, but against a high flying team like the Avalanche, that's probably a good thing.

9:41 - That said, having a competent backup goalie is a wonderful thing. Still not sure why LaBarbera stuck around for a while, but he definitely cost this team a few wins over the course of his time here, which is astounding for someone who played so little.

9:42 - Taking a break during intermission to do a little housework. Be back in a few.

10:01 - I feel like I'm the only one who complains about Michael Stone. Am I alone in thinking he's been the worst defenseman on this team this year? His shot brings an interesting dimension to this team, but it doesn't compensate for his other shortcomings.

10:03 - That said, not sure I understand why Schlemko and Murphy are killing a penalty together.

10:05 - Ribeiro maybe learns the downside of a reputation as a diver.

10:09 - Drawing penalties is an underrated skill/tendency.

10:10 - WOW. Yandle with a hell of a play there. Video game quality.

10:16 - Gamecenter cut out for a bit, but congrats to Jordan Szwarz. I don't know how many goals he's going to score in his career, but I'd bet a lot of them look like that one.

10:19 - I feel more justified in *****ing about Stone now. Unlucky bounce for sure, but that's a bad turnover regardless.

10:21 - Well, that was easy. The issues I have with Stone's play in his own zone probably apply to the entire Colorado roster. Their fall back to earth the rest of the season will be fun to watch.

10:23 - I prefer the hybrid icing to the old version, but I don't understand why they don't go full-on no-touch. It solves all the problems of hybrid and more, plus it removes a discretionary element from the officials.

10:25 - The shutout is gone, but Greiss is locked in tonight. The toughest part about being a backup goalie must be the long stretches between games and the short notice on which to prepare for a start, but Greiss has risen to the occasion (almost) every time. The rest of the team has looked a little listless for big spurts tonight, but his focus has kept things steady.

10:27 - I don't think they've looked bad or anything, but this team has another gear or two that they're not showing tonight. I'm guessing that having Morris, Doan and Smith—three of the most intense personalities on the team—is a big factor there.

10:30 - Intermission. Time for more housework.

11:02 - Back now. Got a little sidetracked between sorting LPs and looking up stats, but it doesn't look like I missed much.

11:03 - Another penalty drawn for Boedker. I think a more aggressive player would be able to power through some of these obstructions and generate more shots, but a powerplay is never a bad thing.

11:24 - Game over. Solid win given all the injuries, even if it was a bit boring at times. Thanks for reading, y'all.

I missed the live blog the first time. Well done!
