Is Toc evolving right before our eyes?

This is the right move to make even if it hurts Demers trade value down the road. This is the right move.

Gotta be a call by BA.

Lol... at some point a tad of credit needs to go to Toc.

I am far from the biggest Toc fan, but I also am one to give credit where credit is due.

I think experimenting with the "Short-leash line" and this move are solid smart moves by Toc.
With Vardy being promoted and Stillman brought in, I think it was very clear BA was not happy with our coaches. First the Stepan trade, a RT favorite, and now benching a healthy vet is not something RT has ever done. I do believe RT has much less say this year than last, and that is probably why you hear rumors of him leaving. Mind you, that could be wishful thinking on my part.

Fair... I do think Toc is gone after this year regardless of how the team performs, which I am honestly fine with.

But this team could go on to win the Cup and most people on this board would credit the ticket sales team before Toc...I just find it a little comedic thats all.

Awesome. Keep rotating these taxi guys in and out. I was happy we got this guy, and he looked like a good bottom-six option in preseason last year, imo. Helped Tucson.
Chaput was okay, but had a bad game. Keep rotating through them. Keep them hungry and see what we've got.

Wish Bunting was on the taxi squad though. Kid deserves some more looks.

I thought those guys would all be battling for one or two open spots this year, to be honest. Then we went bargain hunting. I'm fine with it. Bunting is primed for getting minutes in Tucson.

That didn't take long. Fischer is apparently off IR. Shame Cags hasn't really worked out here. I probably wouldn't give him another shot next season either.

We reallllly need to find some secondary scoring now that we seemingly have a top line. If you're not on the short leash line or named Chychrun/DVO you probably don't have a goal in the past five games. I think Pitlick may be the only exception. Kessel is providing some support but it's been limited lately. If the top line starts to stall we could start to struggle.

Two largest priorities next offseason will be another top six winger and top four defenseman. I think the winger will be more important.

Cags is a good utility guy. He's played a very rambunctious style in Chicago with a good amount of skill. Very easy player to like. A lot like Garland without the slipperyness or high end skill.
He got his brains seriously scrambled two seasons in a row. He hasn't shown us his peak game, imo. He's been decent here, but not great. Kind of inconsistent. We'll see what he's looking like at the deadline. I'm sure someone will be interested. I don't think he's in the plans for next year, really, unless he turns it on. Should be lots of options to fill out the roster next year.
Looks like Hayden hit the taxi squad, maybe? Means he'd have to clear waivers. I doubt we lose him, but I would have liked to see him get a regular spot. We need a thumper.

I have been pleased with reformed Kessel so far, but at ES he's still not producing or providing any push and has bad numbers.

Unlike Crouse/Larsson/Fischer, he isn't giving defense in exchange for this. In terms of 5v5 xGF%, which considers a players contributions and subtractions, he has been the worst forward on the team. That's really saying something when Larsson and Fischer have not been on for a 5v5 goal this year. Keller is averaging twice as many high danger chances, as an example. Brassard hasn't had as much impact since dropping to that line. I would say he's a PP specialist but his impact has only been better than Hayton and Pitlick when up a man. Schmaltz on ice GF/60 rate is twice Kessel's

I would really, really consider finding another 3C and moving Hayton to 2LW in Cags spot with Dvorak. The 3rd line having minimal push and production is probably what is holding back the team IMO. And I don't think it's great for Hayton's development this year.

Gaudette is rumored to be available. I wanted Bonino this offseason, but it would probably be difficult to pull him from Minny.

Good to get the taxi guys reps. As much as they are not long term guys, they can’t just practice all year. Imagine getting to May and needing to slot one of these guys in the lineup and they haven’t played in a game in more than a year.

Not writing him off, but just don't see where he would fit next season.

Short-Leash-Line
X-Dvo-Pitlick
Jenik-Hayton-Kessel
Crouse-Larsson-Fischer
Hayden

I guess if Jenik isn't ready than you have a spot on the third line.

ah gotcha. Yeah I wouldn’t re-sign Cags.

If Tocchet isn't here next year then I'd say there's a better than 50/50 chance of Kessel getting traded in the summer or even at the deadline.
