Could this be the season that we have 2 players that finish w/82pts+?

Hope so, but it's so refreshing to not have this teams identity wrapped up in a goalie for once.

I can't remember the last time where I cheered for a Habs team where the goaltender wasn't *the* star and focal point.
The other extreme is not good either. Allen is under .900 for the season now and arguably gave up 3 bad goals yesterday.

If we just had .912 to .915 goaltending consistently, we might barely be a playoff team despite the young defence, but I think more realistically we are drafting about 8th.

Last year, 39 players were 1.00 ppg or better. An 18 game stretch at season's start will always have more, and that goes for other teams as well as ours. Over 82 games there is regression to the mean.

I think Suzuki has a fairly good chance to hit 1 ppg, as he has a 5 point headroom at the moment. I don't think Caufied will survive the whole season at that level with just 1 point to spare after 18 games.

My prediction is Suzuki around 80 points, Caufield and Dach in the 60s.

Fun fact, not to pile things on for the poor guy, but our last white hope, Jesperi Kotkaniemi's points per game number aafter 18 games this season is now 209th out of 222 players currently playing in the league who were drafted in the first round.

However, I don't think KK will stay at 209th. Regression to the mean works in both directions.

I guess it depends on how strict you want to be with the numbers, because injuries happen every year and pretty much prevent some players to reach the 82 points plus over the course of the season, but those players were still very much high-impact players when they were healthy.

Last year there was 45 players with a PPG >0.99 and 76 >0.85 (min 50 games played). And the league is heading in the same direction this year.
Habs not having a ~1PPG for so long is an anomaly compared to what is going on around the rest of the league and the two players at ±1PPG "dream" will be true sooner than later but maybe not this season.

Cole was on track to busthood under Bergevin and Ducharme. If you believe what the former trainer says, the team was baffled that Ducharme was promoted over Richardson, and the team did play significantly better under Richardson in the playoffs. Cole was close to being called "not earning his icetime" from the archaic "all players must work their way up from the fourth". Nick was not the player Bergevin wanted.

He gets credit but it's partial. Xhekaj is the real found prize, and apparently it was one of Timmins friends who recommended we invite him to camp. I'd also give Bergy huge credit for signing Nick's extension early.

I think it's also to his discredit that Hughes had the team for one summer and the third, fourth, and fifth best players on the team were already acquired by him.

We’re also lucky Xhekaj chose to come to Habs camp since it was his favorite team as a kid lol

Nop, i need to see more of Caufield. I know Suzuki has a chip on his shoulders but the first line had no points and 1 shot i think 2 games ago and that worries me when that happens to 3 young players.

Ok and what’s your point? Kids won’t play perfect every game, they’ll have their down during few games in a row. It happens to every good players.

I certainly see Suzuki put 80 points and more this year. He is a really good goalscorer player too, 30goals with 50 assists is a realistic projection. His passing ability and hockey IQ are too high to don't put that type of stats.

Caufield... maybe... 40 goals it's a good projection and he is a very good playmaker too... so it's certainly possible, he is electric at offensive, fun player to watch... in term of talent, both can be easily PPG's players, for sure.

Dach... I would predict more 60-70 points range, that would be fantastic... even 55 points it's a solid season for him, but his passing ability and hockey IQ is very high too. So anything is possible for a player like Dach, big fan of him, even with Chicago... this guy is too talented to don't put points on table.

It's also hard to believe that just 100 games ago, there was a debate whether the Habs should match the Canes
offer at $6.1M to keep this future one-two punch together.

those posters should be placed in a special thread here and mocked for eternity.

Well then, mock me too, I guess. I was uncomfortable but on the fence. I never thought KK would go backwards this much. Look at Dach in his fourth season.

How many shot attempts?

Brother I mock you whenever I can ,regardless of your fence sitting, its tradition... even if I agree with you.

Not really.

Anyway, how many shots and scoring chances did Crosby have in his two games against us?

hello... a whole line had 1 shot. Your first line with a combined 60+ mins of game time had only 1 shot on goal

You must be right, they’re bad if they’re not scoring every night!

Only Mesar could save this team

you're too dense to have a conversation with

I'll give Bergevin some credit for getting Suzuki in the trade, but I don't think he deserves any credit for Caufield.
Why? He could’ve been as dumb as the roughly 9 other GMs (because Cole should’ve been picked around 6th overall) who passed on Caufield, but he didn’t.

Suzuki is top 10 in league scoring right now, not bad for one of the 10 worst contracts in the league.
I'll never understand the clowns who use "models" that have such glaring flaws every list needs a giant caveat. Maybe update the model?

Both, products of the BargainBin era. Who would have thought? In life, you make good calls sometimes.
If you give a GM ten years and no restrictions and Carey Price, PK Subban, Max Pacioretty, a 3rd OA pick, and a handful of very good veterans maybe after ten years he will leave the team with two players who would look good after his third hand-picked coach was fired.

He learned on the job, what can I say.

Not really concerned with where they end up drafting.

Wherever they draft, they just need to make it count.

But I just mean it's refreshing to not have the goalie be the focal point for once.
