Could there be anything more insulting than being traded for a 4th round draft pick?

That's one way of doing negotiations lol

Could you imagine if it was the norm that if teams can't agree on a contract with a player they list his asking price and then put him on waivers to see if any other team would take him at that price?

It's not exactly the same, but it reminded of the Bruins walking away from an arbitrator giving Dmitri Khristich a 1 year, 2.8 million dollar contract. As per the CBA rules at the time, the Bruins still retained the right to match an offer up to 80% of the arbitrator's ruling (2.24 mil).

Toronto ended up giving Boston a 2nd round pick and signed Khristich to a backloaded 4 year, 10 million dollar deal. In order to free up the roster spot, they'd end up waiving Steve Sullivan. Perhaps vindicating Boston's decision, Khristich's production immediately fell off a cliff while Sullivan took off after being claimed by Chicago.

Players get traded for nothing all the time. Now that is insulting. Unless there is a played called Future Consideration

Never understood NHL trade market anyway... Logicaly speaking players should be worth more than picks, but its not the case...

How has no one mentioned, a bag of pucks. This joke must have some history, did it ever happen maybe in the minors or jrs long ago?

TBF bag of pucks is worth more than majority of draft picks, because at least is worth something. Majority of drafted players outside 1st round will never play NHL, and those who actually gonna have meaningful NHL career are really, really few.
