There is no way this rumour is anything but people just sitting around and making stuff up. For starters, the Sens don't have a first to use which means their offer will be low to the point the Rangers automatically match. There are loads of other reason which really don't matter after this first point.

I would actually be scared if it happened too be honest. We don't know how the rangers gm would feel about the sens offer sheeting his players. We are a internal cap team, the rangers aren't. What would stop the rangers gm from offer sheeting all our players that turn rfa next offseason? The rangers could essentially screw us over. So i say no to this offer sheet.

If we're figuring Derek is going to get $4.5--5 mil per season anyway and that turns out to be correct--there's no real sense to any of this. A top player is not going to sign an offer sheet usually unless the offer really blows him away. Just don't see it here.
